Coffee Table Cannon
« on: August 05, 2012, 04:09:39 PM »
This went for $305.00 on eBay tonight; it's kind of a shame I didn't bid on it, because she would've just loved it in the rec room, ha, ha, ha!

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

During the Pirate era & through the Rev War...  some ships carried "Quaker Cannon" which from aloft could not be told from the metal ones that fired cannon balls...  detering attack.  There might even be real cannons sprinkled in.   Whalers & others would have false gun posts painted on the sides to deter natives.

Actually, I think the table is kind of cool. 8)   It's hard to tell what kind of wood it is made of.  But it is thick cuts.  Wood that size doesn't come cheap.  To make one out of oak would probably cost more than that.
You're not going to find it in the local furniture store.  Someone would have to custom make it.
Cannoneer,  I'll make a really big one for you.  You can make it your dining room table. :o
Think about the possibilities.  Seats eight, repels boarders, goes with a glass of Madeira. ;D ;D ;D

Flagman1776 and Zulu,
That's a great idea, a perfect way to get rid of obnoxious relatives. A similar dining room table, but with a functional barrel, of course; then come Thanksgiving Day crazy Uncle Harold gets the seat of honor at the head of the table, and then ..............

Maybe you should offer a "tabletop" option for the cannons you already make? :D

My wife would never allow it into the living room, but it would look great in the man cave where my other cannons spend the winter anyway.  Maybe I need to find a way to make a
table that would accommodate my current artillery.  Should not be that tough, I would think.  I'll bet it would be easier than the carriages were to make.  You know, I even think I could make one for my naval piece that would look like it was sitting on a gun deck complete with an open gun port to one side...
