.280 rem loads w/ Barnes TSX
« on: August 07, 2012, 04:02:23 AM »
Hi Folks,

I want to work an Elk load for my .280 and was wondering if anyone had loads for the 160gr Barnes TSX. I currently have some 4350 but I could other powder if needed.

 Thanks in advance!

Sorry but I have to ask what is wrong with the normal type bullets?

Surely bullets such as the Hornady 162 Interlock, SST or even the Interbond.

Nachetez has the Speer 145 grn Grand Slam on offer.

Sierra of course make their 160 Grn Game King

Midway I see is having a sale on the 7mm (0.284) Speer 175 Grn mag Tip:-

Speer Hot-Cor Bullets 7mm (284 Diameter) 175gr Mag-Tip Box of 100, Product #621527
Sale Price: $19.79, Reg. $33.99 — Save $14.20

All these have been used successfully in the past to harvest Elk and the 280 remington after all is not a super duper magnum.

I wonder how hunters managed to harvest their Elk with out the "Wonder" bullets that we are now told are required or the beast will just shrug it off and wander off to continue feeding etc until another hunter comes along who IS using one of the new "Wonder" bullets  ::) .

I never got to work much with my 280 I am sad to say.... perhaps one day i can back to working with it.

Here's what Barnes has on their website:

http://www.barnesbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/280RemingtonWeb.pdf

If you call them at 800-574-9200 they will have more info and data and may have something for the powder you have on hand.

If you call Hodgdon at 913-362-9455 they also have a ton of data that is not on their site so you should find what you need between the bullet and powder maker.

Both companies will email you anything they have.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Ive loaded a bunch of barnes bullets through the years and never seen where they loaded any differnt then any comparable weight bullet. Maybe back off one grain for the max load for any other 160 in your gun and try that.
