Just getting started into reloading

Hey all I'm new to GBO. I'm came over here with the rest of the gang from H&R talk. I'm getting into reloading just now. I got a Lee anv. kit and will get a turret press also. I plan on loading for the 357 maximum, 450 Mariln, and 38-55 Win. Does any body have any loads worked up for the 450 Marlin with Remington 405 grain bullets. I want something with less recoil than the factory 450 load. Say like a 405 grain leaving at about 1500 or 1600 fps. My 450 ultra from what I read has about 32 Ft # of recoil. I can shoot it fine, but I'm just using it for deer and bear. So really do not need a 350 grain load at 2100 fps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

.....Let me echo the WELCOME......and rethink the turret press......a single stage press will do better for the money spent for the cartridges you are going to load...imo....it takes a higher quality turret press to be as solid and straight as a single stage press.....as for the 450 loads..sorry...I haven't worked with it but the deer won't need that much thump for a good stop but I HAVEN'T tried bear but maybe someone will see the post and chime in........check the RCBS rockchucker for the single stage press........hth..good luck and good shooting -loading!!

BIGBOREFAN let me add my welcome to the others. Like the others so far I have not worked with the 450 Marlin either. But, I have load for the 45/70 and because the cases are similar in size and capacity (the 45/70 actually having a little more capacity than the Marlin from what I have read) your question made me curious. I went to Accurate Arms website to see what they had listed. I think that they have some loads that would meet your needs. I would look at AA5744 or AA2495 as a place to start. You can look at the listed loads at the link below. You might even want to call and tell them what you are looking to do as I would think that AA5744  could even be reduced a little from the starting load listed, but I would ask first. They might say one of their other powders would be better than the two I mentioned.

Thanks for the welcome guys. That is a very good sight BruceP. Thanks.  I will use the o-press for 38-55 and 450. My uncle as a rock chucker I sold him several years ago. Like me he never used it. Trying to buy it back off him. Many thanks for the replies. This is a great site. :-D

I have been loading the 450 for quite a while. I personally like H-322 with magnum primers. Check the Hodgdon web site for data. The 400gr data will be close enough.

Thanks KN. I was thinking of useing H-322. From what I seen should be able to use it in the 38-55 also.

It's pretty versital, I use it in 35rem, 444s, 45/70, 450marlin. Just about any of your big bores.   KN
