info/??'s about my colt
« on: February 07, 2004, 05:43:21 AM »
i have a colt mk IV series 80, that i bought off a guy a couple years ago for $350.  it appears to be stainless with pachmayer grips.  what can you "knowledgable types" tell me about it?  is it a good gun?  i have just plinked with it a few times.  someday i want to do some upgrading, like an extended mag, slide, and saftey release.  maybe a new barrel, competition hammer and trigger, or a compensator.  just looking for info and opinions
thanks

I think they are a good /better gun than a lot of them and Colt still makes quality platforms.....they did make a stainless and the pachmayers aren't my favorite grips...perfer Hogues for my hand and the  way the P's go below the frame and make you have to have extended floorplates on the mags to make sure they seat on quick reloads.....like ALL factory guns the feed ramp and mag feed lips need to be deburred and polished...check the barrel bushing for smooth movement at the barrel and the barrel link for good fit......a trigger job will improve the guns ability to be shot well for almost any use and some better more visible sights are usually required for good quick work......the extended slide release can be nice and makes quick reloads easier as does the improved safety lever....the enlarged mag release is a double edge sword....makes dropping the mag faster but also easier to do it without meaning to drop the mag!!!!! and that can be baaaad according to the use of the gun........and according to the going price on the guns in my area you got a deal on the gun!!!!! enjoy and good luck and good shooting!!
