Are there any barrels being sold for the Mosin's.  I would like a new  one for my 38.

Classic arms and a few other places were selling czech made 7.62x54 uk59 heavy machine gun barrels that had been cut down and recountered as heavy bull barrels, I bought two sometime back for $69 each to use on future projects. I don't see any offered on their site now, if you google  heavy mosin nagant barrel, you will get a lot of info.  The other option would be to get a barrel blank turned and threaded, then fit and chamber it.

Be Warned, when and if you find a barrel, that removing the old one is a PITA. They are machine torqued with some sort of thread sealer IE: Super tight. I have removed them it takes on hell of a barrel vise and a very long handled action wrench

I think I am going to just chalk this one up to experience.  My mistake in thinking a factory rework would have its rifleing but its missing from the first few inches of the bore.

vacek:  factory rebuilds often come that way, with the first couple of inches of barrel countered bored so that dings and scrapes on the crown do not affect accuracy.  Some of these factory re-builds had badly worn barrels near the muzzles and counter-boring down about 3-4" was the 'fix' at the time.
I would just take that Mosin to the range and see how she shoots - who knows, you may have a real winner there.

Yeah, what Mikey said. When I was working in the gun buisness years ago I remember many east block rifles that had their barrels counterbored at the muzzle.
Customers seemed just as happy with them as none CB'd rifles.
