the stw does a hat trick last night
« on: August 12, 2012, 02:59:50 AM »
took the rem 700 in 7stw out crop damage shooting for the first time last night. Had a group of 4 deer come in at about 600 yards. A bit to far for my shaky rest so i was patient. they finaly came in to about 440 by my rangefinder and I shot the first one. it dropped in its tracks and the other 3 came running toward me believe it or not and stopped at 350. I then shot the next biggest doe and it dropped. Again they came running another 50 yards toward me and i dropped the next one in its tracks. Could have shot the 4th too but it was a bit small. Load was a 150 nos bt and max velocity. All three were shot right behind the front shoulder and all dropped in there tracks. not a bad showing for its first trip to the field.

I have used that same bullet, the Nosler 150 grain Ballistic tip in my 7mm Remington Magnum with consistent spectacular results.

Nice going Lloyd  ;) .

There are those here in the UK who claim to get multiple Deer out of a group one MUST use a sound Moderator or them will high tail it out of the area. Of course others know better and you post made me smile thinking about them and this myth.

Thank you and keep up the good work.

Ive shot as many as four out of a group and one night my hunting (shooting) partner did 6 deer. He had a string of them walking across the field at 300 yards and started from the rear and dropped every one of them. Ive seen how little a gunshot spooks deer. Ive been at camp a few times working up loads and sighting in guns when deer have come into the bait pile in the middle of the day and ate only 40 yards away from my target.

Yes, in many cases they ignore the sound of gunfire. I once shot three deer in 3 minutes at the same trail intersection with a 300 Win Mag at a range of 50 yards.
