96 Ruger ????
« on: February 07, 2004, 07:50:06 AM »
People: At a local gunshop there's a 96 Ruger in .22 mag. I think it can be bought for about $250, with a Tasco scope mounted, is this a fair price???
Can a 17 hmr barrel made for a 10/22 mag be mounted on it ???? <>< Duce:
What ever you'll put up with, is exactly what you'll get!!!!!

It is probably a fair price. I paid 275+ tax for mine. If you find a 96/22 (LR) for cheap pick it up. Last year Ruger discontinued them and they are even harder to find now. And Yes, the 17HMR barrel will work on the 22mag. I have a 96/17 and bought a 22mag barrel for it off of ebay for about 35 bucks. Kind of a waste of $$ though. The HMR has much better ballistics and performace.

I also have been looking at the Ruger 96/22 Mag. However, I can't find anywhere where they say a 17 HMR barrel (96/17) will fit the 96/22 mag. That would be like getting two guns for not much more money.

Two years ago I was shopping for a 96/22mag and couldn't find one. So I went to WalMart and ordered one; payd about $245 for it. I really like this rifle, I especially like the clip magazine over the tube magazines that come with other lever rimfires.THe only compaint is the heavy trigger; I was able to reduce the pull from 7# down to 4.5#.
