Hammer selector fix..?
« on: August 13, 2012, 05:06:35 PM »
Inadvertently fired with the hammer 'safety' pin extended. The firing pin, detents and spring popped out and of course the spring and detents lost.  Tried replacing with ball bearings and another spring,  They keep popping out so I just pinned the caliber selector in with a brass rod.

How do I get parts to replace lost ones, or fix the problem another way so I can switch between rimfire and centerfire barrels without cutting and bending in another brass pin every time.

Thanks.

Contact TC customer service, dunno how it'll go. Since S&W bought them out, I've heard less than stellar response on their customer service.

Thanks for quick reply..  I will contact TC as a last resort, as it took them 3mo to replace locking lugs and get my shooter back last spring.  Hoping for a DIY fix, or maybe info on how to get a new hammer and install it.  Stuff like that.

I don't know a DIY fix but I feel for ya!  I searched in the carpet for my detent balls and springs after that happened and I'm just glad it didn't happen at the range.  Luckily I found all of my parts and get it all back together.  Hope you get yours soon.

Curtis, when you found them, was it just ball bearings and a little spring, or are the detents shaped to go inside the spring?  I could find a little spring and some ball bearings and try that.  Problem is that they will still pop out if it's snapped with the hammer 'safety' engaged again.  Maybe I could just remove the 'safety' thing.

Thanks

It's just two springs and two balls if I remember.
