Trail now closed
« on: August 14, 2012, 07:35:17 AM »
A month ago we were discusing how this dumb broad had a run in with a couple of young Grizzly Bears.  Well those two young Grizzlies have continued to harrass people till a death sentence has been handed out.  Now for the Rangers to find them.

This weekend a family camping in the area had a run in with a Cinnamon Black Bear.  The populer trail has been closed till they can find all three Bears now.  I sometimes hunt just below the spot where the family had their run-in this weekend.  I got a nice Grizzly there a few years ago.  I may take a trip up there in a day or two.  Cinnamon Black Bears are rather rare up here.

Hope I did not offend any of the wonderful women on here.  But this dumb woman actually threw here back pack full of food at the Bears.  She taught them that backpacks are full of good things to eat.  So the term really applies to her, and she knows I called her that on the radio.  Rog

Throwing a backpack full of food to a bear- the Alasakan welfare system? ;D

One of the office admins here did that with a coyote, she was told to stop several times. She didn't stating people were just being dumb and panicky for nothing. A week later several were at the door and one had the nerve to growl at her. It took a bit to run them off.

Yep, bears are just a tad more dangerous than coyotes. I really don't want someone getting get bit over stupidity.

I strongly believe people should feed wild critters if they want to. I also feel the only regulation should be is they have to hand feed them and the critter MUST take the food from their hand. I feel this would solve this stupidity in a short period of time . Of course some wild critters will need to be killed after they eat the problems .  :o ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Either that or feed the critters by putting a marshmallow or piece of meat between their teeth and having the critter take it from them.  :o :o :o

Well Sourdough, the lady in question may not like your answer but lets hope she has learned from her mistake. Her actions worked once and for her only. For everyone involved going forward it was a mistake, one that will only be solved by removing a few bears. Hopefully others listening to the radio program did learn something from your comments.

I seriously dougt it.  All trails have a warning with what to do and what not to do if you encounter a Bear.  One of the things always said, "Keep your back pack in place, it protects your back and neck".  All the litrature and Bear breefings also say the same thing.  She did not learn.  Being a professor at UAF she was exposed to this information at the University, she did not learn.  Bet she would do it again, it worked once, it should work next time too.

;) ;) ;) You guys are such haters! Don't you realize all animals weighing over 500 pounds and having huge canine teeth and massive jaws, and claws that will rip the bark off a big tree are tame???  They're perfectly safe.

But seriously, a lot of these situations are because the people don't want to take the time to learn about the hazards of a new area. It's a tourist mentality, kinda like when the safest most defensive driver you know will abandon it all by renting a motor scooter in Mexico and ride it wearing flipflops and no helmet. It's like the training all goes out the window.

There are plenty of stories from African photo safaris where a tourist will walk up to a wild animal and try to pet it.

You can blame Walt Disney and his cartoons for that.

It's not Walts fault that people are stupid and can't tell the difference in a cartoon and reality. Besides its selective cleansing of the gene pool , wish who ever is doing so would stop tinkling in the gene pool....................
