Go to the Hornady site and check out the reloading section.  Hodgdon site also has information for the 44 mag.  DP

It appears Hornady removed their FTX load notes, but I have some of em, here's their 225gr FTX rifle data.

They removed the load notes when the latest version of their manual came out that included them in the load data.

Looking in the new Hornady manual the .44 FTX bullets have the exact same drawbacks as the FTX bullets in all the other handgun cartridges.  You have to trim the case shorter than SAAMI min length.  The velocity is less than the next higher bullet weight and the BC is lower as well.  The result is that the bullet starts off slower and loses velocity and energy faster.  That "performance" *only* costs you good brass.

The benefit of the FTX bullets in handgun cartridges lies solely in the mind of the marketing department at Hornady.  In the levergun rifle cartridges, the benefit is real and the brass doesn't have to be excessively shortened.  In the handgun cartridges, even those used in leverguns, stick to normal bullets.

your Contender is probably throated so long that trimming the cases is going to be a waste of time.  check it out first though

No doubt that's the reason, but it wasn't removed from their site when their latest manual, the 8th edition, came out in late 2010, the load notes were still on the Hornady site a couple months ago when I last referenced it.

Regardless of why/when it was removed, they fact remains they offer no benefit.

For the Encore, if you really want to shoot those bullets, check the chamber length.  You might be OK with regular brass.  I would still stick with their published data since the bullets have a longer than normal bearing surface and a higher than normal bore friction as a result.
