aoudad and nilgai
« on: August 17, 2012, 08:52:42 AM »
I'll be heading south for aoudad and nilgai. I'll be taking my .300 WSM with me. It shoots both federal nosler partitions and their trophy bonded tips quite well. While I've taken large, thick-skinned game with both nosler partitions and the early version of the tbt, (trophy bonded bear claw), I have had no experience with the newer version of the tbt. Has anyone had any experience comparing the results of the tbt with the nosler partitions on large game?

No experience with the TBT but do with Nilgai....hit right or track long!  There's one in my avatar and will go back next year for another....great hunt!

My wife hunts with a custom Browning in 6.5mm Swede.  About 10 years ago, FEDERAL offered 140 grain TB Bearclaw ammo.  She toppled a young bull elk and a couple dandy mulies, too.  But FEDERAL quit production so we switched to Nosler Partition ammo.  She has taken two elk with this ammo.  The penetration of 6.5mm is amazing to me!  That 140 grain bullet smashes through heavy bones like soft butter!

The TB Bearclaw makes slightly wider wound channels but Nosler Partition penetrates deeper.  The Partition loses its front core but rear core remains intact along with razor edge jacket material.  Both bullets are good choices for big game.

I've use to only use nosler partitions until a outfitter up in northern B.C. recommended tbbc to me. On big heavy game there hard to beat. Federal no longer makes them except for a 200 gr. for the 30-06 and then for the big guns starting with .338 mags on up. I haven't had a need to use the "new" version with the plastic tip but will give them a try this fall down in Texas. All I read is that  both aoudad and nilgai are hard to bring down as drdougx has already found out. The Federal video with there bullet compairson shows the new version is pretty good, but in any case I'll be giving them a try this fall.
