Fun day at the range
« on: August 18, 2012, 01:53:38 PM »
The gun is my CVA 444 Stalker with a Redfield Revolution 3x9 and the pictures  are an accumulation of several trips to the range.  I was working with the 300 & 270 rounds from Speer and the 300 XTP & 265 FTX  from Hornady.  The Nosler 300 JHP and the 300 jsp from Sierria.  I used 11 different powders.   The 270 Speer and 265 FTX never gave me any thing inside 4-5 inches @100yds and I stopped short on development on these.  The Nosler was much better but the further along I went the other rounds came together faster.   I was able to repeat the group from the Speer and came home and loaded up a box of 50.  The other two will have to wait for the middle finger on my right hand to heal.  The only complaint is the trigger guard and release lever are rough on the fingers.   I'm pleased with the final out come.

Top one is the 444.  My other 444 is a Winchester and below that is my newer Stalker 45-70.  The 45-70 has only been out a couple of times.  About 2 inches so far withe the Speer 350HCFN and a Beartooth 350LFNGC at bout 4 inches.  I think it can do better. I have some 300 HPs I need to start working on.  The Winchester goes close to 2 inches with a Beartooth 330 WFN

Nice looking rifles.  I haven't seen any CVA's period here in AK.  I wouldn't mind finding a 444 like yours.

Try gunbroker.com.  I had the same issue here and found them on line and at a pretty good price.
