American Knight first bp for me.
« on: August 19, 2012, 09:42:20 AM »
Well here is my first bp ever. Hunting here is shotgun with slugs, black powder or revolver. I've got the shotty, now have the bp rifle, just need a revolver. This is an American Knight 50 caliber muzzle loader. It takes the 209 shotgun primer. The primer loads into a little plastic jacket so the rifle is water proof. I also got a powder measure and a "p" pad. I now need to get my divers license switched to get my foid card to get my hunting license to get my deer tag!pheww! Almost there. I was looking at the newer style break action tcs and traditions and cvas but all of then are using barrels from Spain with questionable tolerance levels. This rifle us us made and assembled with a green mountain barrel that has a 200 yard accuracy guarantee. I've talked to some locals about the public hunting grounds and was told that most shots are under 100 yards so I might take the scope off. Any way...here she is...

Knight makes an excellent and safe muzzleloader.

I sure wouldn't take the scope off...One of my buddies has the same set up except with a Leupold...

As far as loads, go to a decent sporting goods dealer and buy a box of Hornady XTP hollow point bullets in .430 caliber...Either 300gr or 240gr (I use 300, my buddy uses 240) will work...Get some Harvester plain green sabots for those .430 bullets and load up with 80-90grs of your choice of powder ( I use Goex, one uses Pyrodex and another 777)...

Once you find an accurate load, sight her in 2 1/2 inches high at 100 yard and you should be dead on at about 125 and about 3 inches low at 150...

With that combo you can switch components for years and not ever do much better for whitetails....(Trust me on this as I've done it)... :)

Nice looking rifle, she's a real beauty!

If you had your heart set on a break open American made Knight BP gun,  you should have looked at the Knight Vision.

Not that there is anything wrong with the American Knight.  I just find the break open type BP rifles easier to clean.  Good hunting!
