Date of Marlin Mod. 39-A Golden
« on: August 19, 2012, 05:12:05 PM »
Friends, I have a Marlin Golden Micro-groove 39-A .22. Shoots S,L, and L.R.  Serial # is V3177. Can anybody tell me the date it was made, and what it might be worth? The stock has a couple of marks but overall it's in good shape. I got it second hand back in 1962.

V was August 1961-62.

Guns are usually cheaper where I am than what a lot of fellows post on here. Locally it would be $250-300 if it was the 20" barrel "Mountie". So most likely add 50-100 to that as long as the scratches aren't terrible.
Have a good day.

Boy, they are cheaper in your area. I sold a decent Mountie in Wichita in the late 90s for $275 and the guy seemed quite happy to get it for that price.

No doubt Guzzi. For quite a few years we have had 3 shops that charge $15 over their cost for anything you want new. They make the bulk of their money on ammo and accessories (which are very overpriced). On the down side it effects the used market considerably. I generally sell guns on gunbroker instead of trading them in locally. The last old 39A I sold was for 550, but that was before the recession and black rifle gun grab. It had some light scratches and the bluing was probably 95%.
Lately I have been running a 1955 model on there with a reserve of $550 and the best price has been 440. No scratches and good bluing. Obama may not have went after the guns, but he sure has effected the market.
Have a good day guys.

I think the above statement should be amended to:
Many gun owner's paranoia of Obama fueled by the NRA effected the market.

Bugflipper I don't mean to turn this into something political and I really appreciate your feedback on the 39s but four years ago gun owners were their own worst enemy when it came to rising firearms and ammo prices.
