My New 627 Ti
« on: February 07, 2004, 02:16:22 PM »
I took my new 627 Ti shooting today.  I shot bullets out of 4 different boxes for a total of about 75-115 (factory) rounds.  The cylinder locked up tight on me 3 times.  It wouldn't move by pulling the trigger or the hammer.  I had to put about 20 lbs of pressure on the cylinder release to get the cylinder to swing out, then close it and it would work fine.  Never locked up dry-firing, only after a round had been fired.  Here is what I shot today

Another interesting thing, I kept seeing something small falling out of the gun when I opened up the cylinder.  I had no idea what it was until the last time the cylinder locked up on me and I looked up between the top part of the forcing cone and the top strap.  There were bullet parts shaved off and jammed up in the little recessed area.  Here's a picture of the piece of copper jacket that I dug out

Anyway, I shot my two last shots and decided to go home.  As I was removing my last empty cases I noticed more bullet jacket fragments had found their way to the top of the forcing cone.  Not only that, but the thickness of the forcing cone was uneven all the way around.

So, I am left thinking, "what now?".  Has anyone else out there encountered these problems?  (GB maybe?)  Suggestion are welcome.  Thanks for listening to me vent!

Not with a Taurus but I have with a couple of older S&Ws with many thousands of rounds thru them. It is generally a matter of timing. Can also be cylinder holes not cut correctly. Either way Taurus "should" fix it. See my threads on the fun I had trying to get them to fix my 460. After over two months of it being there they finally relented and sent me a new one.

Taurus quality has sunk to the bottom it seems. Sadly customer service seems to have sunk even lower. There is a told free phone number in my Reviews of both Ti guns on this forum. Call Robert. He is head of customer service and really strikes me as caring but not having enough clout to do what is needed.

By the way, that is a 22LR casing in case you were wondering!

And the sad thing about the whole thing is, I really like that gun.  It is really light and really accurate.  I had a ton of fun shooting today I am just worried about how safe it can be to shoot in that condition.  Also, since I bought it as a hunting/hiking backup, I am worried that it will lock up on my right when that big ol' mountain lion is barreling down on me.

I get the sinking feeling Taurus and I are about to have to get in touch with one another and I didn't want that!

Make sure you insist that Taurus pay to have it returned to them. Have Robert send a FEDEX truck to pick it up. No sense you paying for a new gun to be returned when they can't build them right.

Well, I sent my 627 Ti off on 18 Feb and got it back today.  I paid for the shipping to Miami, they paid the return shipping.

I know this may come as a shock, but I don't think Taurus customer service has their act together.  I called them Friday to ask when my gun would be shipped back to me because I am planning a trip and I didn't want it sitting on my doorstep until I got back.  I was told (very nicely by the way) they haven't even looked at it yet, that they were very sorry and that it would be AT LEAST a week before it shipped back to me.

Their gunsmith looked at it Saturday and it shipped out Monday.

I know the gunsmith looked at it because of the note in the box that told me that he did.  It didn't say what he did to the gun and I cannot find any evidence that anything was done either.  For some reason, it looks like my front sight post has been ground down and narrowed a bit with a dremmel tool.  I don't know why and it doesn't look good.  I guess that is one more thing I'll have to track down.

I plan on shooting it this weekend to see if it is still shaving the jackets off my bullets.  I can't wait,

For anyone out there who is planning on buying a Taurus handgun, please do some research.  It may not turn out to be as much fun as you expected!

Sadly this seems to be happening more and more often now with Taurus. At one time I think they really had their act together and were doing well. But they grew too fast and let it go to their head. Now they seem to think we'll continue to buy even if they feed us junk and fail to take care of such problems. No doubt you'll end up sending it back just as I did my M460. This time I suggest you call Robert and insist they pay shipping both ways.
