Harrington & Richardson is your best bet. Check out the H&R talk section here at GBO for lots of info.

I checked on a H&R on buds guns site & the only one I actually liked was outta stock, not much of a H&R fan.

Thanks for the input tho.

Not a thing wrong with the H&R. I have had a few and never had a problem with any of them. Don't think they can be beat for a single shot hunting gun. My grand daughter went through more ammo with the 410 than any gun i have ever owned.

The Browning BT-99 that Omaha posted about is very nice but that's more of a trap gun than a hunting gun.

The Baikal's I've handled have been junk, I'd much prefer an H&R over those. H&R's can be easily customized to your liking when it comes to stocks, etc. Other than those it depends on your budget. T/C makes 12 and 20 gauge barrels for their Encores. The CZ's I've seen have been nice but they discontinued those so you'd have to find a used one.

Are you opposed to used? There are way more options, it would take some looking around but there are plenty of options out there such as Iver Johnson, Savage, Stevens, Ithaca, etc. Winchester made a nice single shot called the model 37.

So what do you want??  H&R/NEF are about as utilitarian as a single shot can get, available in .410, 20, and 12 ga.  Nope they are not pretty, but they work.  Rossi has a similar gun.  CZ's are good guns as well, when you can find 'em.  Most of the rest are trap guns

the used market may be the way to go,i got these three single barrels for special uses at good prices. one, H&R 12ga mag custom deluxe classic with choke tubes at a store close out,for walking turkey hunting( it will be camoed). two is a stevens 107B 12ga 2-3/4 with tenninite(plastic stock). very light for late season rabbit hunting. three is a savage 220A hammerless in 20ga 2-3/4 also for rabbit hunting. number two and three were bought at flea markets and all three cost less than 300.00 eastbank.

H&R are available at Wally World for 127.95$  Used ones around here go for $85 to100 bucks if they are in good shape. The TDC is one pretty gun, but out of production right now. The std H&R will last a lifetime. The next step up pricewise is a plain Mossberg pump which runs 189 to 229 for new.
