Urban League says Nike is "insensitive" by pricing sneakers at $300+.....

When was the last time we saw Nike salesmen go out onto the sidewalk..twist arms and force people into their stores to buy high priced sneakers?
My grandchildren won't be wearing $300+ sneakers..why should their parents be seen as so stupid?
A couple years ago I was talking with a man involved in the business... He told me the difference between a $35 pair of sneakers and a $135 pair of sneakers...is simply $100!! I suppose the difference here will be $300..
Probably the biggest danger here is the number of kids who will get their heads bashed in when they are robbed of their sneakers..

BTW: Do you suppose NIKE accepts food stamps or EBT cards ?

I am amazed at the number of people who can afford $300 sneakers but can't afford to put food on their families table.

Nike is not insensitive, they are in a buisness where people are stupid enough to pay an outrageous price.

These must be the "poverty level" people that Obammy keeps talking about.
Is it possible that paying $300+ for a stinking pair of sneakers..perhaps $100 for a certain hoodie and another $800 for a gold neck chain...are some of the reasons why they remain at "poverty level"?

Without a doubt others buy this stuff also but you could almost guarantee that is not who the urban league is concerned about.

What's wrong with expensive sneakers? Almost all of us have our luxury items. I don't see this as any different from buying a $25,000 car when you can get one functionally as good for $20,000 or less. Anybody that owns more than one upland bird gun or 30-ish caliber hunting rifle has spent way more than the price of a pair of sneakers to do so.

I have often passed by run-down trailer houses with a new pickup truck and a $60,000 bass boat parked out front.

In this case, it's just a reminder that there's always someone out there willing to charge you more money for something. And if Nike weren't selling shoes like this, then somebody else would.

Priorities.

I agree that we all differ in what we deem as important but the thing is we have that right. What we don't have a right to is regulating someone else's business with anything other than where and how we spend our money. If the urban league wants to control Nike's business they need to do it through a focus on the way their supporters spend money.

Like others I like my extravagances and am, at least to a point, practicing the old adage, "He who dies with the most toys wins. The money I spend is mine, hard earned by me and where and how it is spent is also my choice.

Nothing wrong with a company charging $300 for a pair of shoes. There is nothing wrong with them charging $1000 if they wish to do so. A product is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. A problem arises when peoples wants out weigh what they can afford. Personal debt is now somewhere around 15 trillion. It seems today people just pile debt on top of debt with no thought of how they are going to pay it off. Maybe they think the tooth fairy will come along and pay it off. A massive amount of financial pain is coming, because the party is going to come to an end. When it does end, there won't be anyone making $300 sneakers anymore.

I don't believe anyone should be able to tell a company what they can or can't charge.
If you make the money to buy to buy a 60K bass boat by all means do so, if that is what you want. Just don't come to me and tell me about your starving kids after that.

It's your money do with it what you want, if you buy 300$ tennis shoes and can't pay your rent I guess YOU have a problem.

The answer to the whole debt crisis is simple. Do as I have for a long time now. If you can't pay for it, do without. The old saying Cash is King is truly meaningful. I don't go to sleep at night worrying I can't pay some bill and I wouldn't accept a handout for any reason.

BTW bought 2 pairs of tennis shoes this year. $10 each. You guys that pay $30 must really be rich.

I buy my tennis shoes at Big 5 Sporting goods. They have shoes cheaper than Wal Mart.

In my house we try to be fiscally responsible, that doesn't mean at times we don't splurge. I have a simple rule," If you can't pay cash you don't need it". Yes there are exceptions like houses and emergency medical issues.

I finally got a flat screen TV the other one ceased to function. I got a wally world special 40 incher for about 200 bucks. Shop around you would be suprised what you can get.
