My Little Girl's Shorty Max
« on: August 24, 2012, 08:22:43 AM »
So my little girl will hunt deer for the first time this year and we decided to do it all "ourselves".  So she taught me how to ream a 357 mag out  ;) .  We shortened the barrel to 17".  She helped me pour the ranch dog bullets and load up her rounds.  She is officially ready.  I have this stock and a youth synthetic stock ready to go.

Handis: .17 mach2 (x2), .22 lr, 22 hornet, .22 jet, .223, .243, .270, .280, .357 max (x2), 35 remington, 35 whelen, 45-70, 445sm, 30-30, 410, 500 S&W, 50 AK

Nice all the way around.  8)  My daughter decided if I find a hunter's safety class, she wants to take it.  She's not sure she wants to hunt yet, but it's a step in the right direction.  ;)  She's a very good shot with the .22's and my .45 colt carbine.

It looks like a great job so far ;)   That's a red dot on there?  I think they're a good choice for a kid starting out for deer at fairly close range.  They're nice in low light.  I'm in the process of re-doing my 70 year old "little girls" maxi.  I'm buying a camo synthetic MC stock set for it and we're cutting it to 16.5 inches.  We wish your girl the best of luck on her hunt.

Thanks guys.  She loves it. I like the red dot. I think it gives her some slack if her form is a little off.  Her longest shot will be 70 yrds. Thought about pink but she thinks the "lam" is pretty.

I've got a Max with the same lam stocks on it, they look good.  Our 3 girls like to shoot, not ready to hunt, yet.  Good luck to you and your daughter this season.  DP

Just kidding about the pink.  I'm sure whatever your little girl likes is what is most important.  A little girl who wants to hunt, helps build her own gun and pours the pours the bullets.  Sir; you are blessed..thank the Lord for her and the interests she has..

Dpe.ahoy..same goes for you & your girls also..

;D Oh, if she had wanted pink it would have been pink.  I even showed her a pic of one.  Thats when she told me the lam wood was pretty.  She is "ate up" with this project and tells anyone that will listen about her gun.  She is ready to go and asks daily when how much longer until deer season.   Now my 5 year old is asking when we can make hers.  I love it.

Hello,

I really like ranch dog molds. Can you tell me how they shoot in your 357 max handi? I have a 16 3/8" max I would like a cheap mold for.

Thanks for sharing.  The more I look at this the more I like it.  Have a straight wrist stock already stained, shortened and Truoiled, just debating the forend style.  Will seriously check out getting a red dot, even though I don't know much about them on rifles.

OT... Daughters are into 'Brave' and 'Hunger Games' right now, so it's bows for them. Check out "You Tube - Backyard Bowyer".  Very interesting.  Texas RenFair is coming up soon, so you know how they'll be costumed.

I have the 175 and 190 and they are both great. Have 5 molds for my max and they are #1 and #2 on the list.  highly recommend them. RevBc turned me on to them. He has some great loads.

I like the 190 the most. I have the split mold so I pour 3 GC and 3 plain base per throw.

Perfect. You ever shoot the GC bullet without the GC? does it shoot hte same as the PB? Do you ever load the PB with powders like H110 in the Max? No leading or other issues? great accuracy to 100 yards?

I have and see no major difference when shooting GC bullets w/o GC from ranchdog.   I use H110, lil gun and 2400 and show no real leading issues but I do notice a bit more when I get closer to max loads.  One of my maxi barrels leads a little more than the other 2.  My BH is 18-20 on lead.
