I think of boxing as something from the past, peaking about the 1930s and 1940s. When I see an ad for a boxing match it always surprises me a little because it's so far out of the mainstream today.

I can't seem to find a link to the Holmes vs Cooney fight. Anybody have it?? My uncle Jim used to spar with Dempsey and said he always thought he could take him. One day he got an opening for a rt hand and parked Dempsey on his butt. Jack said, smiling, one more round Jim. He never saw the punch and later realized that Jack had always been easy on him.    I use to watch a lot of heavy weight fights. Say what you want but IMO there are no heavy weights worth watching any more. One i will always remember is the Spinks-Holmes fight. No doubt in my mind Holmes won that fight bit the decision went to Spinks. When Holmes was interviewed after the fight and ask what he thought of the decision he said they all could kiss him where the sun don't shine.

BOBG. I remember that fight well, yes Larry won easily. I remember when George Foreman beat the snot out of shannon briggs and lost the decision. George said that they want me gone, I'm gone.
 
If it had been possible I think the fight of the century, if both were in their prime, same age, etc, would have been Holmes and Ali. Holmes had more power and almost as fast as ali. It would have been a battle.

 I remember an interview with Tyson after he knocked an aged Larry Holmes out. He was asked what he thought would have happened if Larry had been in his prime?? Tyson said, he'd of killed me. POWDERMAN.

     How long was Holmes heavy weight champ?  Seems like i read somewhare he was the best fighter ever but never got the recognition he deserved. Yes an Ali-Holmes fight would have been great. As much as i liked Ali i think Holmes could have beat him. I watched a few Tyson fights. Couldn't stand the guy. Would have liked to have watched the Tyson-Douglas fight but i missed it.

Holmes as a young fighter sparred with Clay(Ali) and said he usually beat Ali .
One of the best Holmes fights was with Ernie Shaver! I had money on Homes and when Shaver knocked him on his butt, I thought I had lost my bet. Shavers could hit like a mule kick.Holmes got off the canvas and won the fight.

Holmes made me some money against Cooney. All my co-workers bet on the great white hope, and I took their money lol! Cooney  was a good fighter, and he sure put a whoopin on Kenny Norton.
