Scored a Versa Pack (22/410 combo)
« on: August 28, 2012, 06:16:39 AM »
scored a Versa pack (22/410)

I dont really know much about these. I saw a guy selling this locally and did some quick reading about it. It looks like i can use the 22lr barrel on my SB2 frame which is what got me excited. It sounds like these barrels are getting a little hard to find so i grabbed it up!. The frame has some great color on it, perfect condition. Stock set looks perfect as well. The 410 barrel has mint and shiny bore, bluing has a few light cosmetic flaws but looks great overall. The guy said the 22 barrel has never been fired and it looks that way. The bore is spotless. Id does have some VERY slight hazy color to the outside of the barrel in one area. I think some Rem oil on it and it will look great. Both barrels lock up tight on the Versa and my SB2.

U figure i will use the 22 on my SB2, I cant tell if it is really a rare find or not but still a cool little set. Cant wait to try it out at range.
Does anyone else like these things?

They're great combos, I wish they still made them. I bought mine at Walmart back when they were still being made.

You have really scored, it is a great handy combo. Don't split it up if you don't have to. Unless you NEED to sell the rest of the parts off because you really NEED the money, consider keeping it together. It deserves to stay as a unit and be just what it is, not orphaned and sold off for a couple pieces of silver....<><.... :)

I kind of hat to hear that. I really bought it for the 22 barrel and the stock set. But now you have me feeling like i should keep it together.

It's your gun my friend and you can do what you want with it, I just ask you think about it. Once it's split up and sold off it will most likely never be together again. And selling off the other parts won't get you much at all, just an SB1 receiver and a .410 shotgun barrel. But together, what a great set for a youngster or for a camp or survival gun. And, they are not making any more of them....<><.... :)

Instead of breaking it up do what I did - add to it! I bought a 45 Colt carbine barrel on the classifieds here and it locked up perfect on the Versa Pack frame so it's now a 3 barrel combo. My son uses it for everything from squirrels to deer. He's going to use the .410 barrel this weekend for our grey squirrel season opener.

You actually have quite a few options for adding a rifle barrel to it. H&R will only fit a .357 Mag or .44 Mag to it but if you can fit barrels yourself then you can get away with low pressure rifle rounds like the 45-70 (trapdoor loads only), 30-30, .45 Colt and .22 Hornet. You can also add any other shotgun barrel to it.

Another cool thing about your particular Versa Pack is that it's an older one with a case hardened frame. That's the first one I've seen like that.

Gardner wouldn't fit any other barrels to a Versa Pack frame, I doubt Ilion will either for the same reason.  :-\

I have a SB2 frame that i am planning to put a 357 barrel on. That is what i was going to use the 22LR barrel on. I was thinking of making a set out of the 357 and 22LR. Maybe add a 45/70 or something.

But today my dog started throwing up. She has been a little sick for a few days and i was hoping to see her getting better. But i guess that is not the case. We have a appointment to see her Dr. in the AM. Depending on the bill i will decide about this set. I would like to keep the 22 barrel but i really do have some really nice 22s already (SBR/ supresed 22LR AR15, CZ452 and so on). I will probably sell the Versa Pack or just the 410 and SB1. I am not really sure yet. :-\

The answer is actually yes, I LOVE them things, I also originally purchased the VP set to get the .22LR barrel, but I ended up, buying another frame so now I have a matched set. ;D   That's why they call it the Handi-virus.

Just a bit of advice, if you sell the VP as a set, it's probably worth more than if you just sold off the parts individually.

If you sell it off, and then you decide you want to replace it, it will probably be a while before you find another set, let alone one in decent shape.

You could probably sell it easily in the classifieds.  Best of luck to you which ever way you decide.

When you allow a lie to go unchallenged, it becomes the truth.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.
