Thats the correct word PM. Wisdom! And knowledge is no good without it. That, and common sense. They all work together.

Funny thing about the definition of common sense. If I believe something is (This Way) And some one else believes it to be the (Other way), then IMO they have little or no common sense. In their mind, it is I who has little or none.Pretty tough to define common sense ;) Below is the Worlds smallest political quiz. I finished far to the right in the OP's test, and Libertarian in this one :o .

Obviously it's because I'm a Paleo-Conservative, not a Neocon.

Not trying to pick a fight or anything, but I think 'outcome' determines common sense. And therefore it can be determined who has common sense.

For instance, spending billions of tax dollars to "grow" the economy and create jobs hasn't worked in the last 4 years. So a person saying that spending billions more thinking there will be a different outcome, doesn't have much common sense. Or one can simply look farther back to history. If someone says 'this' will work when there is no historical account of 'this' ever working. Common sense would tell me not to bother with it. Granted, there may be some gray areas from time to time.

Common sense doesn't have anything to do with ones opinions or beliefs. So right there you miss understand what common sense is. Common sense is simple and its not hard to define.
Its a perception of the obvious.
Definition from webster is sound and prudent judgment based on simple perception of a situation or facts. Common sense is the ability to know right from wrong. Some people have it some don't.

Knowledge+common sense=wisdom, and you don't get wisdom by going to college or by education, because I've seen many that have, that don't have any. Common sense is needed in the equation to gain wisdom, and common sense is something that can't be taught or learned.

ZOOM! Common sense, roughly speaking, is what people in common would agree: that which they "sense" in common as their shared natural understanding. Some use the phrase to refer to beliefs or propositions that in their opinion they consider would in most people's experience be prudent and of sound judgment, without dependence upon esoteric knowledge or study or research, but based upon what is believed to be knowledge held by people "in common".

The two key words here are........In Common!
Republicans for instance believe Democrats are void of common sense.
Democrats are just as sure Republicans have none.
Those of us that have decided to leave the snake (Either Head) believe they are both correct.Neither have a lick of common sense. Now this puts us at odds with both parties, and they would agree that the third party types have even LESS common sense. It all hinges on what IS, IS ;)
Enough nonsense!  :o  Back to the question. By BTW? If you took the other quiz.......The small one,. What direction did you folks lean?[edit]

On theadvocates.org test I came out a Centurist Republican. That is until I went back and changed one answer from 'maybe' to 'agree'. That made me a Centurist Libertarian. But in reading their definition of "Right (conservative)", that pretty much fits me to a tee. Different paradigm, different result than the other test. That is why these "tests" are only an amusing game to me. The tests themselves show idealogical bias and the opinions of the designers.....IMO.. ::)

Something else that I think is interesting. I went back to the latter test and tried to come up with a combination of answers that would put me in the "Right (conservative)" area only to be labeled a statist, centurist or Libertarian. And I did manage to get into the left side, finally, by answering the way I thought a leftist might. I tried both deliberate and random answers and could not get into the "Right" side of the chart. Maybe someone else would have better luck.

I always referred to common sense as being able to exercise good judgment from the situation you are in. Things like, take rain gear or an umbrella if it looks like it might rain. Or, you don't spend more money than you can afford.
Or, to lose weight you must consume fewer calories. Or, the more a product or service costs the lower the demand is for it. Some people never learn from mistakes they make. They do the same thing over and over with the same result. That is what I refer to as having a lack of common sense.

Anyway, I did take the quiz and I got 90% on personal Issues, and 100% on economic issues. Which puts me near the peak above Libertarian. Never considered my views as republican, Libertarian, or Democrat, but from my answers on this quiz it marks me as Libertarian. Never paid much attention to where my views line up. They have always just been my views. I always did know that my views have never lined up with anything on the democrat side. I don't see democratic views as just a different opinion. I see them as plainly wrong.

I belong to a labor union, and at least in my industry (railroad) I am damn glad we have a union since our "management" are very heavy handed, treat all the craft employees like garbage even though most of them have no idea what we do or how to do our jobs. Plus they will do everything they can to get us to do extra work for free. This is infuriating to me.

Are you coal/railroad guys going to vote for Obama again, when your union leaders will tell you thats what you need to do?

I wasn't planning on it. Honestly I'm so disgusted with both tickets I might sit this election out at least for the Presidential election. It will be the first time I have ever done so since I turned 18, but I am not happy with any of my choices.

Not trying to start a discussion on the good or bad of unions, but don't you find it disturbing that unions support and send some of your union dues to the democratic agenda, and promote voting for democrats only? I belong to a union myself, but I'm against everything they are trying to accomplish. If I had a choice at my work location I would choose not to be part of it. Also the national standard for the job I'm performing has a higher pay scale than what Im making under a union dictating what I should make. Unions also protect the unproductive, that would be fired elsewhere. The way I see it, supporting unions are no different than supporting an anti 2nd amendment politician, because its exactly what unions do.

+1.............Now that's my definition of common sense.Neither one of these NWO, big government  thugs are worth a vote in the opinion of some of us.What a great day for America it would be, if no one pulled the lever for either on election day.But Alas! The ones with that (IMO) common sense thing will be a minority on that terrible day, when once again the American voters in record numbers will voluntarily give up more of their rights, jobs, money they worked for and freedoms.WHY?.........."Well" it could be the lack of CS ::)

What got me on the poll is it shows only people below 18 to be true democrats if you check it by age!  Everyone else has too much sense!

Hmmmm. I came out exactly in the center, right on the independent mark, overall. Then I tried the economic scale, and was right of the average republican. So I tried the social scale....... and came out just left of the average democrat. I guess that is why I am not real pleased or impressed with anybody. One side wants to tell everyone else how to live..... but don't expect THEY should have to pay for anything. The other side wants to tell everyone else how to live, and wants someone ELSE to pay for everything.

I think we should ONLY purchase through government things that pass a cost benefit analysis, on a pragmatic basis. That means that things that ultimately benefit OURSELVES will have to be paid for disproportionally by those who CAN. A lion must kill to survive, but hyenas ,jackals, and buzzards all eat as a result. They all have a place. I also believe that the groups you belong to are of your choosing, and that those with other standards, values, and moral systems have equal right to their BELIEF. (here most of the readers will be screaming that theirs is the ...true....correct...factual...moral... best...most righteous...etc..etc  system of belief, which is entirely irrelevant)You will need to reach an agreement at the points of interface in order to deal with one another. You do not dictate to them, they do not dictate to you. You have two choices..... accommodation or anomie .

It would be interesting to see where the Republican and Democrat leadership fall on that scale.  I bet the R's are dead center and the D's are about 6" to the left of the end of the scale.  I think both parties are quite a bit left of their base voting block.    I consider myself to be a Conservative libratarian and I hit way to the right of the Tea Party.  That makes me a really old white, male evangelical.    It would be nice to be able to vote for someone again instead of against the sorriest of the two, but that's where I've been for quite a while and I still would never contemplate sitting one out.
