Check it out. What a value on ebay right now.

An incredible design if I ever seen one. I didn't even know you could sell bombs on ebay.

Geez!  They want $225 and they give you 5 - 1lb. lead balls to help you blow it up. They should call 'em Dr. Kevorkian Mortars.   >:(

Yes 5 balls are included but if you cant blow it up with all 5 you can order extra and it ships next day.

I think the breach plug is one of them super strong ones where you weld a plate to a pipe then cut off the excess, grind and done.

I would like to look down the bore to see how many dingle Berry's are hanging near the trunnions area.

Item no longer available.  If it ships with ammunition, it violates ebay rules.

I will only shoot, when in the same vincinity, a piece that is solid at the breech (integrally machined from solid bar stock) or threaded with the effective thread length = bore D.  I am 70-ish, can still count ten on my fingers and still can see out of both my eyes.  Some I have been in the Sport with over the past 50 years cannot.   ...so as they say... "pay your money and take your choice"  Just try to remember... with every choice is standing firmly astride it, the consequence(s) that goes with that choice.

The mortar shown in the link above was sold under the Name:  "YORKTOWN"  for years as a kit.  It's not a historical replica of any particular mortar.  It has features from British and French mortars of the 1730 thru 1800 period and also a few features of the 1838, 24 Pdr. Coehorn and the 10" Seacoast Mortar,  Model 1840 mixed in.  If you don't mind buying a "bastard" mortar, the price isn't bad.

Personally, I would prefer buying one of the excellent shooting mortar tubes made by Dominick.  You get a safe, quality product and you are not afraid to get out and actually fire it and have some fun.  Price is better too!

Can someone please tell me what a internal and external breach plug is?  Anyone have any experience with an internal external breach plug?

An external breech closure should be called a cap.  Personally, I don't recommend them unless you are using a cartridge case as the breech pressure has a much larger area on which to work.

I see that gun is not being offered with shot now.  Still not very safe to my mind.

What a keen eye you have for the smallest of details and are able to pull that mortar apart piece by piece.  Unfortunately now days the world is full of bastard. Most if not all artillery replica makers don't bother with replicating things to perfect scale or exactness as some do. Whats really sad is all the people  claiming things to be a replica when in fact its nothing close. I see it done all the time and it really bums me out. :-[

Seacoast. Do you know the name of the man in the picture on your websites home page that is standing near the breach of that cannon with his hand on it? He looks just like a guy I know. Im thinking hes a relation.

Doc, Have say I was one of those Dummies that had not been to this site yet. I purchased 2 B/P cannons at a dirt cheap price. I was attempting to buy a 10 ga blank cannon. Not knowing their popularity and price I was always out bid. The first one was a 3/4 " brass pipe with a cap screwed on the end, 2 3/8 plugs drilled into the sides for trunnions and a hole drilled for the fuse and the maker recommended 50 gr. B/P. OK didn't know any better. That was a $45.00 bust. Then I purchased a so called thunder mug of 1' gas pipe with a strap welded around the bottom for a reinforcement of the chamber. that was $35.00   shipping. After finding this site and reading as much as I could I threw them in the trash, lesson learned. I now by my stuff from sponsors or people on this site, it makes me feel safer. As to the mortar on eBay isn't 2 1/2 lbs a little light for a one inch??

I think what is meant by internal and external breech welds is that someone reached down the bore and welded the front of the breech plug to the inside of the tube [internal] and then welded the rear of the breech plug to back edge of the tube [external].

hi I guess I will put my two cents in if I was doing what I think is being said is the internal plug is welded with a chamfer on the tube and plug. Then welded and a plate is welded on the back over the plug. That,is the way I would do it.Never weld inside a tube ,not very strong ,hard to do and do not forget the dingle berries ,not to smart either. One thumb short

When I started in the wonderful world of artillery I had a great master. A fella in NJ that was a Rev War period artillerist (is that a word). He told me to know and I mean KNOW the person you are buying from. Like GOW I have been at this for over 30 years and have no injuries as a result of any of my, or others I shot with, mistakes.
I still do not understand why folks here go one ebay to look for artillery. We have great sponsors here and while Dom has been plug I didn't see armorer77 listed. Nor did I see Irishman. I have GB throwers from both of them and love'm.
So go to ebay and buy if you wish. But you are missing out on some great pieces for great prices.
This ends this commercial announcement.

Hi Dock  I put my two cents into this as for how it was done.I would not buy this bomb as you stated there are a lot of good people on this forum and good suppliers to buy a proper cannon, mortar at a good price not a cheap  cannon that could hurt you. They will also give you good advise as to give you info on what is safe .I have seen real bad ones that is why e-bay does not let you sell unless it is for noise as I am sure they do not want to be liable. Thanks for listening to a newbie still learning. One thunb short
