Contender Reference Book
« on: August 31, 2012, 08:40:39 AM »
Greeting from Northern California.

I am (almost) new to this forum. I am also very interested in purchasing a TC Contender rifle, mainly for target shooting at the local range. Probably start out with one of the rimfire calibers, then later ease into several of the small centerfire calibers.

I am having trouble with learning the language of these rifles. I read the posts here, but for the uninitiated (aka me) they are often difficult to understand because of my ignorance of the particular firearm's parts and quirks.

Is there a good reference book for all things Contender?

Thanks very much.

Welcome aboard, and to the world of Contenders.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better source of information for everything there is to know about TC Contenders than what's right here in the GBO archives.   Lots of knowledgeable Contender folks here, some approaching guru level, that like with anything else don't always exactly agree but usually talk it out.   There is nothing Contender that hasn't been experienced by someone here, and usually by several or many folks here.   Terminology is pretty much standardized, although it gets confusing sometimes when folks don't know it, stray from it or assume everybody else does and doesn't explain to keep the post shorter.   Just one of the factors to deal with on the internet with the written word verses face to face.   But any term that doesn't click for you can be easily explained for you just by asking here.   Most here are willing to help no matter how many times its been asked before.   FWIW, we all started out on page one with Contenders sometime during the last 45 years, all had to learn from scratch, all had to rely on others with more experience along the way to do so.  Just jump in and somebody will be along soon to help you out with any question.   You will get the right answer, if not right up front you will soon enough from others.   Good bunch of folks here.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Feel free, I've been hanging around here learning that way for a decade or more!  If I see a chance to "pay it forward" I certainly will.
