Wonder why Samson's power came from his long hair? Guess there is an exception to every rule.

Guzzi; for a guy who claims Christian roots..you seem woefully unaware of it's doctrine, customs and history..
Samson was a Nazarite, committed to this special sect before he was born.  Nazarites took special vows concerning their lifestyles, one of which was the long hair.  He did not get his power from the hair.  However, when it was shorn that represented a breach of his Nazarite vows.  Living a humble, humiliatedf life was the way of the Nazarite...and the long hair was part of the humiliation.  Samson struggled with "seperation"..
John the Baptist was also a Nazarite..he dressed raggedy clothes of camel hair and ate honey..seasoned with locusts. (Matt 3:4)    ......  Better brush up!

First it would depend on where in the world you are as to what men and women wear. The kilt is a skirt and worn by several militarys for dress uniforms I believe even in Italy their best trained troops wear them for parades with some speical head gear. In China dresses are worn by men as in the middle east , places in Africa etc. In this country it was it was not unsual for boys up to the age of six to wear dresses ( though not today). In some parts of the world people wear nothing. etc. At age 5 is it as big a problem ? I don't know the traditional dress of Germany for children.
But the parents should be careful not to go to far in allowing self expression. What do they do if say the kid decides to not wear clothes ? There are customs that limit the extreames of dress in each location and that is what parents should be teaching . But then there was the FIRST BIKINI , the first to stop wearing a bra etc. which no one wore a generation before . Girls and women often wear mens clothes with no complaint . Dress changes . Here in the states we see boys wearing clothes that look like what girls should be wearing including skirts . In some cases its hard to tell the gender ( I believe that was the point in the Bible to avoid. ). Son is the kid more mixed up than the world he got born into ?
I do tend to think dad wearing a skirt is strange though. Lord help this child and all children we have made it difficult to know right from wrong anymore.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Biblical assertions aside, I think this dad is not acting like much of a leader to his child.
My kids are 5 and 7.  If I let them, they would wear Halloween costumes to school every day.  Superheros, cartoon characters, you name it.  Even when we get ready to go somewhere, I've had to tell them "That's not appropriate clothing for ..." fill in blank with destination or weather or whatever may dictate clothing choices.
There does come a time when children will need to make decisions and live with the outcome of those choices.  Until that time, it is up to the parents to lead them.  The most basic tenants of child-rearing, education, and whatever training begin with the 'correct' way, or in this case, societal norm.  At the age of 5, this child should have a role model who recognizes that the dress-up and play clothes stay at home.  He can 'express himself' when he has some life experience and a bit better awareness of consequences.
Just my Awf Hand comments...

Most children at age 5 like attention . Maybe he has learned how to get it. At age 5 I doubt it's a gender issue.

There is no fault borne the child at all.  The problem lies with the Dad..who should be able to see the child is trying to form his identity.  Instead of guiding the boy into a male role by being a role-model....he is affirming the child's gender confusion..

Not a fan of males wearing female clothing, it just don't seem right.

Hair length a sin? Not sure I can suscribe to that. I know Paul mentions a woman's hair is her crowning glory, a man should not have his head covered while worshipping. Paul also said if you are under the law you must obey all of it or be a breaker of the law which was why he was glad he was under grace. Wasn't Jesus also a Nazerite?

Picking between the Law and Grace, I'll have a double helping of Grace thank you. (Grace is not an excuse to do the wrong things)

Blessed are those who live their lives in "gray areas"..for they shall be known as airheads..
thanks- I'm sure you have a biblical quote for that as well. lol
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'll pamper you ..and give you two quotes:
**********************************************
" Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." But the people said nothing... (I Kings 18:21)

   AND.......

" A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."  (James 1: 8)
***********************************************************
If you need more..just ask..    BTW: Note..those are God's words; not mine...
Thanks for the enlightenment. But my favorite is = the Bible clearly states that its a sin for a man to wear long hair. So I doubt Jesus wore long hair like many pitchers indicate.  lol

Yeah, I saw that Kimber after I posted it. My bad, I do that sometimes, that is hit send before I scan the post for mistyped words. Sometimes people find humor in small trivial things like a mistyped word. I have seen them here before, but always know what word the poster intended it to be, and just read over it. Being you called me out on it, which is fine with me if thats your game, but I figure it upset you more than it made you laugh, or you would have left it alone. Thats ok too, because i see often where God's word upsets some people at times. I fully understand.
I have seen you use Scripture before to support a belief. Don't know if you read the Bible much, but if you don't why don't you give it a try. Its a very good book, and once you understand God's character from reading it, Gods words are not as apt to disturb you. Convict you yes, disturb you, no. There is no other way to know right from wrong without understanding God's truth. There are only two paths. One is the narrow path that leads to life. Then there is the broad way that leads to destruction. There is no gray area, nor neutral ground to stand on.

This Dad who is dressed in a dress to tell is son "see its ok son, dad is doing it" is taking his son down one of those many paths to destruction.

German kids are dressed similar as here. However since there is an increasing number of ME imports/offsprings their attire will include a scarf or headwear. Not nearly as bad as in Canada were Sikhs are allowed to wear a turban and beard as members of law enforcement units.
What is the point of Life if you can't have fun.

Not so sure about long hair on a man being a sin today..or even a sin back then. Obviously, according to Paul (writing under inspiration) the long hair thing was frowned upon during the first few decades of the Christian era.
So, why was this so?  Note; the verse comes from (I Cor 11:14).. Paul was writing to Corinth in Greece.  At this time, homosexualism had infected parts of the Greek military, namely the helots.  To identify one another, these homosexuals grew and wore, their hair long.
Christians were being falsely accused of many things, they didn't need additional accusations of being called Sodomites.

No, Jesus was not a Nazarite..and contrary to popular medieval paintings..he obviously did not wear his hair long.  Surely Paul would not have accused our Lord of having worn "shameful" locks.

IG,
Thanks!!
Well then I guess it's fortunate I shave my head. ;D  So anyone who doesn't.... well you sure have long hair their buddy. ;D ;D ;D

John the Baptist was a Nazerite and Jesus did not rebuke him for his hair or anything he did. I can understand Paul teaching to seperate themselves from sinful appearances.

I have never suscribed to the pictures if Jesus as anything other than an artists depiction.
I re read the passages, Jesus was a Nazarene not a Nazarite, 2 different things all together.

As far as style of dress, I always figured it was better to get them to God and let Him deal with the dress code. I tend to view things as the apostles did when they first started out.

Anyway I think the dad in the story is honestly trying to help his son. I do think he should be encouraging his son to wear pants or shorts. I know my dad would never wear a dress. Unconditional love is hard, but as a dad you have to step up and lead not follow. You can have unconditional love and still lead.

Yes, jesus was a Nazarene..because although he was born in Bethlehem and spent a couple years in Egypt..his basically grew up in the town of Nazareth.

The German fellow may have been believing he was helping his son, but he should become acquainted with the idea that a father should not back his child when he/she does wrong or is making a mistake.  Such things need correction because as the child approaches adulthood, the rest of the world is not going to cater to his aberrant behaviors.  He is setting his son up for some disappointments and perhaps some rough treatment in the real world..
