Reloading just got cheaper.500 S&W
« on: September 01, 2012, 04:53:43 PM »
I've been digging round putting together my first reloading kit. It's for a Handi in 500 S&W.
Until now I always used Lee classic loaders. Never had a problem, just don't get in a hurry.
But they are not available for the 500. Before I go on I'm in the far north of Easetern Australia. I priced a Lee 50th Ann Kit.
Came in about 200 plus 30 for post. Then the 3 die set was 75 and the sizer kit was another 45. But all together I could shave 25 bucks off postage if it was a single purchase deal. So around 325, no brass bullets or powder.
Kilo and a half of trail boss is 95 bucks here, but thankfully that available locally a short 4 hour drive away.
Then thanks to someone on this site I found an American supplier who will do that 325 dollar kit delivered here for 230.
Might seem like a high price to pay where you are but compared to the Australian suppliers it's a gift.
So thanks very much fellas I appreciate it.
Mick   :)

Mick, you'll like that kit.  I started out with it a couple of years ago, and I like it.  I've added stuff as I went along including another Lee single stage press.  I enjoy reloading, I have the time and I like the single stages.

Talk about shipping :o   I just sent a Handi barrel from the U.P of Michigan to a guy in Ontario.......262 miles away......$38.50 U.S. postage.  I put it in the mail Monday, and as far as I know, he still hasn't gotten it.  How's that for cheap, efficient service ??? :'(   I shoulda met him halfway.

That is just sad. I bought a set of Lee dies, their 440 gr mold, their sizer die, and 100 rounds of Magtech brass to start delivered for $125 here. I feel for you. Once you get set up though, hopefully it will be reasonable. I reload mine now for between 12 and 15 cents per round. Great gun.

Yeah Pete... You should have met the guy half way.... He probably would have bought you breakfast and brought you a few pounds of moose jerky... Canadians are just like that. I doubt he has the barrel yet... Usually takes 10-15 days... I'm sure he'll let you know when he gets it.

Last time I sent a small item (small, not heavy package) to Canada I figured 'no big deal' to do it just like we do here; $xx shipped. WOW; basically just gave the item away and the USPS got the most; even at that they are 'going broke'.
BTW, I do not believe it is going to get cheaper than it is now.
