Booby Bungalow?!!? And others. What is going on?

During the past several years I have seen an increasing number of "adult" "super stores" while on road trips. It seems like a fast growing industry, notnsure of what they sell as i have never been in one, but it seems like they are just about everywhere now. One has a funny name, booby bungalow.



Then theres a bar with a billboard that says "booze and girls...need we say more?" that's funny.


Do you know what might have caused the ascent of businesses like this?

I see the same thing. I would think the internet would be the end of the kinky mall but it seems quite the opposite.

 In my area, we've seen most of these places go away. Only one left within ~10 miles that I know of. I assumed that internet offerings had taken most of the market share.
 What homeowner or business would want one of these sleasy places in their neighborhood?

them humans - more alike than different, though many of 'em will never admit it - they got needs, and the marketplace looks to meet the demand.

Mark me down as being in favor of sex.

I thought the neighborhood porn store had been done in by the web, since It's All There, and mostly free. I heard some blurb back a while that the most profitable sector in the web market, is sex sites.

Booby Bungalow sounds like a catchy name, and... sounds like fun!

I've heard that too, but have never been "propositioned" even though I do travel a lot in the South. I don't drive a truck though, and I don't recall ever seeing anything that looks like prostitution.  Maybe it's just some particular well known places. I figure if there's prostitiution, there's probably drugs and other crime, so I try to avoid places that look like they may have stuff like that.

My Dad was a trucker, and there near the end of his driving career he told me the prostitutes were becoming more and more prevalent at truck stops.  He claimed it was the new crop of drivers that had promoted it.

CONAN. Easy answer, more and more folks are falling away from God. A new pawn shop opened up near Ft Knox but it's also an adult sex shop. So much for the pawn shop. I enjoy pawn shops, different guns and such but will forgo this one. POWDERMAN.

While I was sure mrs librarian wasn't around, i did a few web searches. It doesn't look like porn is the main product, or even a major product at online places like that. It seems to be mostly rather humorous looking clothing and innovative applications for plastic. One thing that did surprise me was at amazon.com is in that business.


When i was a kid places like that were in the business of selling mostly "dirty books".  That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. But it still does have a seedy appearance.


I also did a web search to find out how to clear my browser history.

 I'm also in favor of black powder. I get some once in a while.    Would rather not that anyone bring in 25,000# and set up shop to sell it on my corner though. Might could lower my property value a tad.

Adult toy store ! and lot lizzards and not just in the South. I saw both across the Mid West and in Canada. I went to college with a guy from Pittsburg Pa he claimed it was the Sex capital of America. This was back in 74 and he would bring sex toys back to school most had never seen before. But the South is catching up. I don't think it is a new breed of trucker as there was a place in Boons Mill Va. and Marshall Va. that catered to truckers needs back in the 60's or before.
What's going on ? same thing that has been going on from the begining of time. They say Cleopatra had a wooden tube that she had bumble bees placed in . Wouldn't want to be on that crew    can you say ouch ?
