I'll be shooting Caribou and Wolves mostly. 18" kill zone on Caribou and 12 to 14" on Wolves. So I figure 8" is a good measure. I have been working with a 6" radius, but decided to expand it. I remove as much human error as possible, for shots over 300 yards. I use a rest, range finder, and handloaded ammo just for long range. If I don't feel confident of the shot I don't take it. I use the RCBS swivel shooting platform, and I set it up in a blind. I set up on or near a Caribou trail where the animals are concentrated due to topography. Caribou are always walking past, and Wolves follow the Caribou. After snow fall I mount a rest on the back of my snowmachine. I don't go to the extreme like my partner. He uses a lock down type rest and a remote trigger.
For Fox and Coyote I use a .223. When we leave Monday I will take a Weatherby .338/378, Handi 30-06, Handi 25-06, and a Handi Ultra .223. This trip I plan on using the 25-06, and the .223. The Weatherby only comes out if I see a BIG MOOSE (I'm talking a monster Moose) or a Grizzly. The 30-06 is strictly a back up in the event I brake the Weatherby or the 25-06. Since we are going to be 40 miles from the highway, leaving the spare gun in the truck is not an option.
