I've had it with java

I just uninstalled Java from my PC. That program has been getting more and more insidious, and now it wanted to download updates and new features by default, and it made it hard to disable that function. So I junked it. Considering that none of the web sites I frequent use Java in a way that benefits me, I won't miss it. With the increasing use of malware it's probably better that I have as little automation on my PC as possible.

Also, there were instructions for disabling the automatic updates, but they did not work as expected.

I don't know from Java this, or Java that, but this computer won't even let Adobe Flash update.  I'm going to work on that when I've got nothing better to do.
 
I did just check and it seems that Java has its tentacles into a lot of programs.

Yup! Major security concerns with Java!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any program that needs that many updates, or auto updates, is a good route for nasty things to get into yer 'puter.

Powderman: The way I could tell is the incessant nagging to keep doing updates and adding toolbars and installing McCaffee. There's a little graphic that looks like a steaming coffee cup associated with it. A lot of programs need it, but nothing I use seems to require it.

Flash is another thing I don't use and I disabled that too. You probably use it if you watch a lot of videos, but disabling it means some of those self-starting videos in ads can't run.

CONAN. THanks. I just got my puter back Sat, it was infested with over 170 spywares and 3 viruses, + xtra toolbars that wouldn't stay gone. The puter guy said they came from agreeing to downloads, etc. Today I got another pop in like before for a free disc cleaning, I aint doing that anymore. I do watch vids so I do renew or update the flash player. POWDERMAN.

When you get a couple of hundred dollars to spare, get yourself a tablet like a kindle fire or nook color. It has wifi and you can use the internet without the windows hassles. I don't even get on the internet with my pc anymore except to briefly look stuff up or do periodic software upgrades. Life is better this way.
