.45 colt vaquero velocity question
« on: September 03, 2012, 02:04:15 PM »
Got a wild hair giving me the itch to take a deer with one of my cas guns, a 5.5 in stainless vaquero to be specific. So I started out with 18.0 gr of 2400 win and fed primers under a 255gr cast swc. The federal primers won out in that load (not that the winchesters were too far off, but the poi was about dead on with the federals). My question is if anyone might know what this particular concoction might be running in the way of speed in this setup. It shoots about a 1.5" group with the fixed sights that is absolutely spot on, so I'm not all that interested playing around with other loads, just want an Idea of how fast its going. It will undoubtedly make meat, just curious on the specifics.
Thanks in advance,
Nathan

Something around 1050-1100 fps, is what my 45 colts run with that load.
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

 You're welcome
I get about the same speed and a bit better accuracy from the bludot load that is on Alliants web data, so I haven't loaded the 2400 in quite some time, have also pretty much quit unique in favor of the bludot.

Been meaning to try H110 along with bluedot for some time now. May have to get to it sooner than later. Cant beat this load though, so I guess I'll be waiting till the 2400 runs out.

110 is alright in the 44's , but I don't care much for it in the 45.

Just picked up my first 45 colt- and was wondering why the comment about h110. I reload all my own stuff-and just picked up my 45 dies.H110 works great in my Blackhawk 44- why not the 45-powder too slow?
