How many barrels are enough?

I've got 3.- All 14 inchers.

22 match grade for small game and targets
.223 For varmints and farther targets.
.44 magnum-for stuff that bites back.

Geez, I think that's all I need!

How about 1 more for deer over 100 yards? 7-30 comes to mind (can you tell I have one?) Your collection is very similar to mine. I have a 22, 7-30, 44 mag, and a 30-30. The 30-30 is definitely an overlap with the 7-30. The only reason I don't have a 223 is that I just don't have any reason to own one. I'm not much of a varmint hunter, and can't find reason to have one. I think if I pared my stuff down to what do I "need", I would probably have just 2 barrels: 22 match and a 7-30. I don't expect to hunt anything larger that the 7-30 can handle, and the 22 takes care of my squirrel hunting. But I'm not selling the 44 or the 30-30 either!  :)

"Need" is a word that doesn't quite work for me with shooting stuff, particularly T/C barrels!

In the Contenders, I've got a .222 , a 30/30, and a .358 JDJ in 14", and a 7mm TCU which is a 13" after removing an aftermarket brake.   There is some overlap with the 30/30 and the 7mm TCU, but both shoot great and I've already invested in dies, brass, etc.

I also have one Contender carbine barrel, a .223, which also shoots great and makes up a very handy, light, accurate rifle.

Flatlander,

I live in Ohio so no 7-30 waters allowed on deer here, strictly straight walled cases.

.223's are okay on groundhogs though.

Ohio, well you have to also convert to a Carbine and get a 45 caliber Muzzleloader barrel.  I got mine from David Van Horn, or just go with the new G2 setup.  I enjoy using mine in the Ohio season, also may use it for ground hogs as a change of pace.

Your from Ohio too:
Well you need to be like me and try to collect and shoot as many legal pistol calibers in a Contender you can. Killed deer with a 357Max-45/70-44mag. Just bought a 375Win and looks like it's gonna work out fine too(first group @ 50yds- all touched holes) And then there's those out of state hunts 6.5JDJ#2-30/40 Krag-375JDJ. Then there's them small critters .22-45/.410- and a 32-20 will fit in quite well. Then there's the boys! Both got SS 209x50's(gotta start bulding up their Encore collection too!) It'll never stop!!!!!!!!!!!!

The second barrel I bought caused me to buy my second frame. It went south from there. I would have a stroke if I had to reduce my colection down to single digits. Your lucky at this point, your not totaly infected by CONTENDERITIS! :-D

4 frames and 15 barrels. Finding something in .41caliber will usually add another to the bunch. :-)

I sometimes think I have too many and may sell one.  I sometimes think of another one I need and buy one.  Anymore, I always think I have to many, but I am keeping them anyway.

I am at 9 Contender handgun barrels, 1 Contender Carbine barrels and 2 Encore rifle barrels.  I will let you know if I ever get all that I need, but do not plan on hearing back from me anytime soon.

Anyone who has 2 or 3 in the same caliber - just different barrel lengths - has got it real bad.  :) I still haven't figured out what all calibers I want!

Hi, my name is Rob, and its been 1 month since my last new barrel.

I seem to regulate the number of barrels to the number of scopes that I'm willing to buy. But even this just slow's it down a little but not enough to suit the wife He He.

Shorty,  you got it right.  Scopes maybe the limiting factor.  However, I recently found that I'll buy a scope even when I don't have a barrel for it to go on.  Now I'm two scopes ahead and a real easy mark for someone with a barrel (or two) I think I need.  How many barrels are enough?  If you have to ask, you aren't really hooked-- yet.  Those of us who are truely hooked know the answer. The next one is the last one I'll need.

Man Doc, thought I had it bad but at least all of mine are different calibers.  If I get it as bad as you I will have to buy another gun safe too!  I have enough trouble figuring out which calibers to shoot that day.  If I had to determine calibers and barrel length within the caliber my mind would go into overload.

1 Encore Frame
1 308 15 inch barrel
1 376 Styer 15 inch barrel
1 22mag barrel to come in a few months

I figure that will cover anything in the world from small to large " I'm going to kill you if you miss" critters.

 This seems to be a serious affliction.  :? I've limited myself to 14" barrels so far.
          22 match
          223
          7x30
          44 mag
2 frames but only 3 scopes and I seriously "need" a 375WIN. Is there a support group for this and do they know where to get stuff for the best prices?

Looks like TCholism has taken another persons reason for existance!

freddogs, there is help out there, but the cure is VERRRRRRRY EXPENSIVE!!!! :o     I would recommend that you order 2 barrels from ED's TC and follow that up by starting an Encore Collection starting with the 15inch barrels.  It won't help, but damn it sure feels gooood to get that fix each time you receive a new barrel or TC item from the Santa in the brown truck! :-D    :-D

Just my perscription for getting better?
