Battery for a 2004 Yamaha Kodiak 400 Auto
« on: September 07, 2012, 02:15:43 AM »
Iv'e been looking around the net. I find batteries from $35 to $140. The Yamaha replacement is about $70. What is the big differance between the cheap ones & expensive ones? What should I get?

You want a battery that meets or exceeds OEM specs.  OEM for your ride is I believe 14AH 220 cca @ 32*.  If you use a winch or run auxiliary lighting you actually need more battery than stock.  Yuasa is hard to beat.

BTW, gell cells don't do well in an ATV since they're not designed for heavy use, especially in cold weather.

i bought a replacement battery for my rzr this spring at the local parts store. Battery was typical of a lawn mover battery. It was about 30 bucks cheaper then the battery sold at the polaris shop. Got it home and istalled it and it wouldnt even start the machine. Brought it back and got another and tried that one. it would start the machine but wouldnt run the winch unless the machine was running. I took it  back got my money back and went to the polaris shop and bought a replacement. It has much more power. Its worked perfectly ever since. By the way the old original worked for 4 years. From past experiece with the parts store batterys your lucky to get 2 years out of one.

Do  yourself a favor, buy a battery companion/tender for 25  bucks when you buy whatever battery, attach the pigtail  and leave it plugged in when not riding and double your battery life on small  batteries.

I keep a battery tender on my ATV and riding mower.
