(WHAS11) -- Questions linger Friday morning after police said Mahmoud Yousef Hindi opened fire during a homeowners association meeting at an East End church.

One person was killed and another critically injured around 7:30 Thursday night when police said a Hindi pulled out a gun and fired shots at a meeting held at the Springdale Community Church on Springdale Road.
 
Police have not released a motive for the shooting, but witnesses at the scene said the shooting was prompted by a property dispute.
 
"We know he had a gun, he threatened his next door neighbor. She tried to be nice to him and he said 'I've got a gun and I'll use it,'" one neighbor said.
 
People who live in the nearby Spring Creek Neighborhood said Hindi is one of their neighbors and he was angry because of a property dispute. Neighbors said the suspect violated code and the two people shot were responsible for enforcing code for the Spring Creek Homeowners Association.
 
A retired LMPD officer was in the building during the meeting and was able to subdue Hindi until officers arrived on the scene. 
Police said 10 to 20 people were in the church during the shooting.
Hindi is charged with murder, assault and two counts of wanton endangerment.

News said his neighbors couldn't get along with him and he threatened at least 1 neighbor with a gun. The dispute was over a driveway he had put in, another was over a fence he built that was over 4 ft tall, against hoa rules. Neighbors said he did not want to follow the rules he had agreed to. crusty. Not that I know of. Dispute was over him not following the rules he had agreed to, needless to say he reacted like an idiot, don't know his religion or lack of.  He has confessed. Link below. POWDERMAN.

Most HOAs have a 'no jihad' rule. Unfortunately for Mr. Hindi the rules are printed in english.

 True, but the No Jihad rule obviously doesn't apply to some HOA "officers."
 
 Case in point - My BIL owns a vacation home (condo) that my Wife and I use occasionally. A while back, my Wife went to stay there for the weekend and one of the HOA enforcers rousted her about a small oil spot on the driveway, telling her that it needed to be cleaned up pronto. The spot had obviously been there for quite some time, and our car does not leak oil.
 
 I wondered how many times he'd walked past the driveway, just itching to find someone to confront about that gross violation.

Gallery  See all 2 photos »  (WHAS11)- Mahmoud Hindi was in court just last week, as he was fighting a lawsuit brought against him and his children by the Spring Creek Homeowners Association.

Hindi, a retired physician originally from Jordan, was trying to represent his sons in the lawsuit during a hearing his side requested last Tuesday, since their attorney didn't show up.

Police say Hindi killed Spring Creek Homeowners Association President Dave Merritt nine days later, while the association discussed Hindi's violations of HOA regulations.

It happened minutes after the association's meeting started at a nearby church, when Hindi allegedly pulled out a gun, and shot Merritt and another man, before being subdued by a retired policeman and another neighbor.

"We did speak to him and he did give us an entire account of what took place that night," said Homicide Investigator Lt. Barry Wilkerson at a press conference Friday afternoon.

Wilkerson indicated Hindi fully confessed.

He said his officers have spent the past 20 hours pouring over documents and other evidence seized from Hindi's home.

The trouble with Hindi and his neighbors started last July, just months after the family moved into the upscale East End neighborhood.

Last summer, Hindi was cited by the city for an illegal driveway and was taken to court by the Homeowners Association for a fence that did not conform to HOA regulations.

During that process, we have learned Hindi sent threatening letters to the Department of Inspections, Licenses and permits and to the HOA attorney, including one in which he said, ""As I always tell (expletive) I will protect the sacred interests of my kids, even if it comes to killing and even if I lose my own life in the course of doing so. Thank God the house is paid off. I can pass away in peace with no concerns."

And we have learned there has been trouble in his past.

In 2010, a warrant for his arrest was taken out in Terre Haute, Ind. after he allegedly assaulted someone at the local Islamic Center.

In Mayfield Kentucky, Hindi was repeatedly sanctioned for violating city code after allegedly keeping goats on his property, opening a medical clinic without a license and installing an illegal driveway at the home he later abandoned there.

"The family is in a state of shock and disbelief as to what has happened," said Khalid Kahloon, another attorney representing Hindi. "This is a ... peace-loving, law-abiding family enjoying their American dream, and then it's shattered by this unfortunate and very tragic incident."
 His attorneys asked the judge for a much lower bond. Kahloon called him a "complex man" who "is not a danger to the community in the sense that this crime is not a random, violent crime."

Prosecutor Joe Martz objected to lowering the bond.
"He is the epitome of danger to the community," Martz said.
The judge kept the bond at $1 million and set a pre-trial hearing for Sept. 14.
 Police say Hindi was at the homeowners meeting for a short time before he started shooting. Some of the several people in attendance detained him until police arrived. Police did not release other details such as what sort of weapons was used.

Slain was 73-year-old David Merritt, the one-time president of the homeowners association who was shot once in the head and died at the scene, according to a deputy coroner.
The wounded man, whose name was not immediately released, was in critical condition Saturday at University of Louisville Hospital.

Hindi is Jordanian-American who worked in nuclear medicine, Kahloon said.
Hindi was unable to keep practicing medicine because of health problems -- he recently had back surgery -- and his medical license had expired, the attorney said.

 Kahloon mentioned one other time when Hindi had a brush with the law, when he was given a traffic ticket in another county for exceeding the speed limit by 7 mph. Hindi had failed to appear for a hearing on the citation, resulting in a bench warrant, the attorney said.

Besides the religious issue which may or may not have bearing on this, it appears this man came from a privileged /elite/ level of society which is accustomed to have " his way".
 
The question I ask is since he has threatened to use violence with firearms before why was he allowed to keep them.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- University Hospital officials confirmed the second victim in a deadly church shooting, Marvin Fisher, died from his injuries.
Hospital officials said Fisher died Sunday morning after being shot Thursday at a homeowners association meeting at Springdale Community Church.
 
David Merritt, 73, was also killed in the shooting.  Merritt was the president of the homeowners association.
The suspect Mahmoud Hindi is charged with murder, assault and seven counts of wanton endangerment.
 
Hindi has pleaded not guilty even though police said he confessed to the crime. Hindi could now be facing a second murder charge.

What I want for him is life in prison at hard labor, sentenced by a woman judge.
