38/55/ shooters,question on plinkers.
« on: September 07, 2012, 02:20:56 PM »
I just saw a lee mold that I never saw before, a 375 caliber 130 gr RN-FB that looked pretty nifty, looked like it would make a nice plinker. I wondered if any of you have or are using it , how does it work? I watch these things because some day I will run across a 38/55 barrel that won't cost me a kidney on ebay, or someone that ----aawrrk :o likes--- rimless cartridges and wants to trade something :) :) . So if I see casting stuff on sale I might pick it up.

I've never shot anything that light in mine, but I can tell you it likes .379s breakfast, lunch and dinner.

When you said 379 that made me think, I went back and looked again, it was in "rifle molds" but I'll bet they made a mistake and it is for an old 38 caliber pistol , as it is a 375 dia, and that would be too small. Should have looked closer to start with.

Tim and I are shooting a .379 213 gr. bonded bullet with a BC of .380. over RL7 at 2275 fps very accurately.  Brent, thejanitor, is shooting the same bullet, but I don't know at what velocity.  I also have that bullet in 263 gr. with an uncalculated BC, but I haven't put it through the wringer.  I suspect the longer bullet has a better BC.  Not enough time for all the Handis :'(
