15" encore loads 7mm-08
« on: September 08, 2012, 04:21:40 AM »
Ok, any suggestions for getting started with reloading 7mm-08?  Recipes?  I'm shooting an encore 15" pistol.  I'm using the lee classic turret press (using it as a single stage).  I have the collet die set and the factory crimp.  I'm using cci primers and prvi partisan brass.  I have Imr4895 and unique powders.  Which bullet for deer 200 yards and less?

My recomendation is to refer to a loading manual (or several). I have two rifles in that caliber (my Encore pistol is in .308). I load Varget and 140 gr Nosler Accu-Bonds and they work and shoot great. Unique is too fast and a pistol powder, although there may be cast bullet loads for it. I cannot recomend a recipe here, but ay reloading manual or powder manufacturer sites can give you what you are looking for. The Lyman manual is great btw.

I have had great luck with 140gr accubonds with IMR-4350 with near max loads out to and beyond that range.  I also loaded some 160gr ABs with the same powder as a back up for my black bear hunt last week, but didn't need it as I shot it with an arrow instead... I only shot out to 60yds with the 160's but they grouped very well and I expect they would fly well to 300.  FYI, both of these loads were compressed. I worked up to these loads and you should too....
