Cross Bow Cocking Aids
« on: September 08, 2012, 05:03:58 AM »
I guess I have reached that station in life with the results from surgery that I am needing help in cocking my Horton cross bow.
I would like to hear from anyone that has used or is using a cocking aid and what type of device that you are using.
Also, as they seem to be kind of pricey where is the place to look for the best price?
Thanks in advance.

Doc
I use a "rope cocker" on my Horton, and it works fine.  They are not very expensive.  Simply two hooks that attach to the X-bow string, with two pulleys and two handles.  You pull it back towards you while holding the X-bow in the cocking position.  It easily cocks the X-bow and ensures equal pull on the string, for consistent accuracy.  Just Google "crossbow rope cocker".

I have the rope one built in to the bow Wicked Ridge works well.I got a croosbow because of some back trouble I can use it but if my back was any worst I'd need one with crank. If you surgery involved your back you might want to try one before you buy. With the rope you pulling 50% my bow is 180# so I'am still pulling 90#.

Thanks for the info so far.
I have a cocker but that still means that I am pulling 75# on my 150# bow.
The surgery did not involve my back.
I am considering a crank and am playing around with the idea of adding another seet of pulleys to the rope cocker; however not being that mechanically inclined nor being an engineer I am still trying to figure that one out.
Any help?
Thanks in advance.

ive got the same set up and it works great. Had a crank cocker on my barnett and it worked but seemed to allways be in the way.  Either way a mechanical cocker will usually result in more accuracy. Its hard to cock a crossbow exactly the same way each time by hand and it will effect accuracy
