Mitt Obamney says he would keep parts of Obamacare

Why wouldn't he? After all, he provided the template for Obamacare.

Romney says he would keep parts of Obama healthcare law

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who has called for scrapping President Barack Obama's 2010 U.S. healthcare law, said in remarks aired on Sunday that he likes key parts of "Obamacare" despite his party's loathing of it and wants to retain them.

Romney, who faces Obama in the November 6 election, has vowed throughout the campaign to repeal and replace the Obama healthcare law. But asked about the Obama healthcare law on NBC's "Meet the Press" program, Romney said, "Well, I'm not getting rid of all of healthcare reform."

"Of course, there are a number of things that I like in healthcare reform that I'm going to put in place," Romney added. "One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage. Two is to assure that the marketplace allows for individuals to have policies that cover their family up to whatever age they might like."

The Obama healthcare law, among other provisions, prevents insurance companies from denying medical coverage to people who already are suffering from a medical condition. It also allows parents to keep their young-adult children on their health insurance plans until age 26.
The law is Obama's signature domestic policy achievement.

Elements of the state healthcare reform plan that Romney put in place as governor of Massachusetts served as a model for the federal law passed by the U.S. Congress and signed by Obama in 2010 despite unified Republican opposition.

"I say we're going to replace Obamacare. And I'm replacing it with my own plan. And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people," Romney told "Meet the Press."

On the day the Supreme Court upheld the Obama law in June, Romney said the American people must vote the president out of office in order to "get rid of Obamacare." The law is the most sweeping overhaul since the 1960s of the unwieldy U.S. healthcare system.

The Obama law was meant to bring coverage to more than 30 million of the roughly 50 million uninsured and slow soaring medical costs. Republicans say it meddles in the lives of individuals and in the business of the states.

On the divisive social issue of abortion, Romney said it "would be my preference" that the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing it be overturned by any justices who he would appoint to the U.S. Supreme Court if vacancies come up.

"Well, there are a number of things I think that need to be said about preserving and protecting the life of the unborn child. And I recognize there are two lives involved: the mom and the unborn child," Romney said.
"And I believe that people of good conscience have chosen different paths in this regard. But I am pro-life and will intend, if I'm president of the United States, to encourage pro-life policies," he added.
"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."

Sure he will, likely about 99.99% of it. Afterall the folks him, obama and congress works for wanted it to pass. Had they not it would not have passed. America told them no and they ignored us because we are no longer relavant. Pretty much everyone who makes it to general election at the federal level have been hand picked by the cabal. They don't really care which of their minions are elected at that point.

I watched Romney being interviewed on NBC.  Normally I wouldn't waste my time, but I thought it might be interesting.  I thought Romney explained what he was for in a very clear, concise and as specific a way as possible under the conditions.  Dick Gregory--the interviewer--came very close to badgering Romney on several subjects when he wasn't able to catch Romney on anything.

Yes, Romney did say that he would advocate for insurance coverage of existing conditions.  For most of us who have been around awhile, that is almost mandatory.  How many of you think you are going to make it to the grave without experiencing some of lifes health issues?

What I heard Romney say about insurance for ones children is that he would like for people to be able to buy insurance to cover their offspring for as long as they would like.  I don't have a problem with that--as long as it doesn't mean that such a policy would be subsidized by taxes.

Romney repeated that he doesn't just want to kill Obamacare, he wants to replace it.  He cited part D of Medicare as a good example of how the government could introduce competition into health care that would bring costs down.  For those who might not know, part D is a part of the "Bush prescription drug plan."  The Dumycrats rag on it every chance they get, but in fact it has been enormously successful in making prescription drugs more affordable.

Overall, I thought Romney seemed to be very well informed on every issue he was asked about and was able to answer every question with confidence and clarity.

Keep in mind that Obamacare is not just a health care plan.  It is the Dumycrat plan to transition us into a single payer system (totally socialized health care) and Obama has said so himself.  I hope Romney is wise enough to back a plan that would fall far short of socialized medicine and not fix things that are not broken.

I knew that what Romney said and the way he presented it would be blown way out of proportion and used to demonize him by the Libertarians. Like Bugeye and magooch, I find nothing wrong with what Romney wants to do here. Although I think he needs to clarify some details on the parents carrying their kids as long as they want to. What is the big deal with that? People pay premiums and get insurance. They will pay higher premiums with their kids on the plan. So what! What is the difference between that and seperate plans? The biggest problem with what Romney said was in refering to "parts of Obamacare". That should set off an alarm. But when looked at rationally, there is nothing wrong with it. There should be common sense rules for both pre-exsisting conditions and who you carry on your insurance. But other than that, I see no problem. Ranting about Romney on this one is just the typical 'knee jerk' reaction of many.............

Josh Romney came to Alaska twice.  He met with a group that I am affiliated with.  We got to sit and talk with him both times.  The first time I had a one on one with him for 20 minutes, we discussed a bunch of things.  One of them was people in my condition with heart issues.  Another one was that one of my grand daughters has major health issues and my son can not find health care for her.  Josh said he would make a note of that and talk to his Dad.  The second time he came my wife discussed health care with him.  She pointed out our son Skyler.  Under the new health care law he is now entitled to stay under our health care insurance until he is 26.  Previously he was shut out at 23.  He is a college student and unemployed, therefore unable to afford health care.  I later heard other Mom's across the nation was saying the same thing about their college students.  This goes to show that Romney is listening to the people.

Oh, I get it now. When Obama pushes Socialism on us it's bad but when Mitt Obamney does it it's good.

Doublebass;
The Obama care bill was some 2300 pages which was passed and nobody read.  Today people such as the Romney people (and others) have had a chance to read it fully.
He hasn't changed his mind about dumping Obamacare, but he has said there are 1 or 2 provisions which he may include in his medical plan.
Have you read the 2300 page bill..where you can competently criticize him?  Do you have a problem with the pre-existing conditions clause?  ..If so, I sure hope you never have a child or grandchild born with problems !
I have some problems with the insuring until 26..only in that if they insist on insuring until 26..they should not discriminate toward college students only.  It is highly likely that the 25 year old working at an entry level job, cannot afford insurance either.

To say that a 2300 page bill has no redeeming qualities is a rather stubborn position...especially if we have not read the bill! ;)   :D

People should remember and be aware that Obamacare is not just a health care scheme.  It is foremost an enormous tax increase act and as I said, a means to an end--total socialized medicine.  That means the end of private insurance programs, the end of medical saving accounts, HMOs, Medicare Senior Advantage and everything else that works.  With socialized medicine, we can all look forward to an aspirin and a bandaid and very little else.

I keep remembering something a nurse told me.  She was working with a newly arrived nurse from England.  They had an elderly lady patient, that was really bad off but had hung around for several years.  The English Nurse said they should do it like they do it in England.  Open the window and leave it open all day.  By night the patient will have pneumonia and be dead the next day or two.  Ends suffering for everyone, patient dies of natural causes.

That's English Socialized medicine.

To me that's just plain murder.

You're right, I don't pay attention to "real conservatives" who praise Romney for doing one thing but criticize Obama for doing the exact same thing.
In a free society government doesn't dictate to it's citizens what they must buy and it doesn't dictate to businesses how to run their operations.
