I was "tweaking" in my Leupold 3.5-10X scope at 150 meters. The original group was 1.5" high and 2" left, I just wanted to move the group to the right and adjusted the scope to the right 6 clicks, the group not only moved to the right but the group was now 1" low as well.
Why does this happen? BTW I let the barrel cool between groups.

Try this:

Shoot one shot.
Adjust the scope 8 clicks to the right.

Shoot a second shot.
Adjust the scope 8 clicks down.

Shoot a third shot.
Adjust the scope 8 clicks to the left.

Shoot a fourth shot.
Adjust the scope 8 clicks up.

If I did this correctly, you should have a perfect square 2 inches wide. If not, then you may have problems with the scope or scope mounts.

It does that because you have it canted. Even if you think it isn't it is. Trust me on this. If the scope isn't canted then you are canting the rifle when you shoot. Some folks just insist on canting their rifles and thus cant the scope so to them it looks straight when they shoot. Canted is canted. It don't work.

I agree with GB on the canting, Thats one reason your groups will print a little diferently from one day to the next, or from one shooter to the next. Unless you use one of those little bubble level devices on your rifle it can be really hard to tell.

Well I thought that canting might be Gregory's problem but really had no experence to base my thoughts on so I did not post. Glad to see that maybe my excuse for a brain was on the right track.

Zachary, canting is when you tilt your gun to one side or the other instead of it being straight up and down. Most who do this will tilt the top of their rifle in. That is a right hander will tilt the barrel and therefore the scope to the left into their face. They almost always then turn their scope in its rings clock wise back to the right so the crosshairs look straight to them. The worst case I have seen of this was watching a right hander who cants shoulder the rifle of a left hander who cants. He then pulled the scope away from his eye trying to figure out why this guy would mount his scope so the crosshairs looked like an x instead of a +
