and before i get just use 357 max i believe 9x25 would have some advantages. if my mathmatics are correct with a  16 in barrel and a 147g bullet would be at roughly 2500 ish ft/s for about 2000lb/ft of energy. can anyone give me some advice?

if it does 1500 out of a 6 in barrel and minimum rifle length is 16 in. they say approximately 150 ft/s per inch of barrel. so i guess according to that my math is wrong to the low side. but if my maths wrong in your opinion tell me were

Your math is probably OK, but your logic isn't.  .38 Special for example.  Say 800 fps.  Shot out of a 22 inch Handi ought to be doing 3200 fps. by your 150 ft/in gain.  That's the 800 plus 2400 for the extra 16 inches of barrel. You're lucky in fact to gain 100 or so in reality with that exaggerated example.  You will gain perhaps 50 - 100 fps. per barrel inch lets say between an 18 and a 22 inch barrel.  It doesn't go on forever.

Lets have a look at a loading manual to see real numbers...

.44 Magnum
Speer 240 gr JSP
24 grains of 296

From a Marlin 1894 Rifle with a 20" barrel velocity reported 1734 fps
Same load from a Ruger Redhawk with a 7.5" bbl velocity reported 1420 fps

Pistol powders do not benefit greatly once barrel length exceeds 12 or 14 inches

well doesnt that just suck. i knew there would be some limit to the gains but i didnt know they would be that small. if i still wanted to make this happen what would be the best barrel to start with and is there someone that could make one? i have enough 10mm brass and i plan on buying all the dies for 9x25 anyway so another gun chambered in it wouldnt hurt.

I bet your not that far off!! I have seen some chrono. Numbers for 6" barreled dillons and they are pushing 2000 with 124g bullets.

BUT, it's just a number really, unless your just wanting flat tredjectories for paper shooting that is cause the single bullet that will hold up the that velocity is a FMJ... The 9mm barely gets a 147 going over 1K so nearly tripping the velocity will have quite a effect on expansion. ;) FMJ isn't first choice for shooting game. The 9x25 is a velocity hound. The difference in velocities when longer barrels are considered, are pressures the calibers run at. Most handguns are lo pressured, not so with the 10MM and it's offspring the 9x25. They are right at 40K like the Maxi! The vel jump in longer barrels is head and shoulders about a 15-20K 38 spl loading.

I can see the allure of a 9mm/40/10MM/45 in a Handi, but it's just not my cup of tea.

Now if you Make it in a semi auto that utalizes the same magazine as its hand gun counterpart and you have my attention and likley my $$ too. ;)

That looks pretty good!!  Your post got me surfing and I found that a company called Mech Tech makes a conversion to carbine using pistol "lower" frame assemblys... Here is one in 10MM... meaning a simple barrel change and you would get 9x25 Dillon!!!
