Question on gun selling.
« on: September 12, 2012, 05:36:06 AM »
I have a rifle I want to sell.  Am I supposed to ship it FROM a FFL dealer or can I ship it TO a FFL dealer when selling over the internet?  Thanks,

I don't know what rifles cost. I swapped a fellow on here pistol for pistol and the shipping was pretty high. I think near $50, plus the cost of the ffl fee for pickup. Yes you can personally mail a rifle to the ffl the buyer wants to pick it up at. You need to probably put on there that buyer pays shipping or factor it into the price because it may be $20-30 on a rifle. It's also legal to sell face to face, assuming you are in AL with your screen name.

That is what I thought.  Thanks.  One other question.  Do you ship it through the post office or through UPS?

I am currently operating under the idea that USPS is dealers only for firearms and that UPS or FEDEX are the only options for the rest of us. I'm pretty certain handguns can only be shipped by the latter two by us but FFLs can use USPS.

I just recently traded a rifle to Bud's and shipped it to them via UPS. It cost me $53.07 cents to ship it to KY from AL.

Long guns can be shipped USPS by anyone that can legally own one, they'll only accept handguns from licensed dealers tho. Their shipping cost is considerably less than what UPS and Fedex charge, and it's faster, I recently shipped an H&R Ultra Slug Hunter, shipping weight was 10lbs, cost was $26.20 insured priority mail to zone 6, his FFL had it in 2 days. The only time I use UPS is if I have to, either at the request of the recipient or I'm shipping something than can't be shipped by USPS like ammo.

One thing you need to know about shipping to an FFL is many FFL's won't accept a shipment from a non-licensee, they'll only accept shipments from other licensees(FFLs), that needs to be clarified with the buyer before you ship, otherwise when they receive it, they won't transfer it to the buyer and it ends up being a very expensive transaction.  :-\
