FWIW, I think the VX-3 has better optical coating. It "probably" transmits light better. I generally look for a used 3.5x10 VX3 for my all around rifles (my 06, 300win and 35Whelen) and buy them when I can find them. I also find the VX2 3x9 to be a fine scope. For rifles that I consider long range shooters like 270, etc, I GENERALLY use VX2 4x12AO (REM700 in 223, 270win) but I also find that a VX1 works really well (243). I currenty have Vari-X 2 2x7s on a 375HH, 7x57 and an Car15.
