Lapan cannon?
« on: September 18, 2012, 09:51:39 AM »
I am trying to help a friend find some info on his cannon.  The trunnion is marked LP.  Is this a Lapan barrel?
I have not seen it personally.  I believe it to be about a 3/4 scale six pounder.  I am trying to get some more info on it now.
Does anyone recognize the limber?  I have never seen anything like this before.
I will get bore size, barrel length and wheel height.
There is a tag on the carriage to a "Captain".  I will get some more info on that also.
Here are some pictures.

I don't know about the tube, but the axles and wheels come from an old farm wagon.

Someone here has one of their old catalogs maybe they will shed some light on this......The "LP" looks about right for their mark but at the time they were producing I was only interested in Rev. War stuff and didn't pay attention to the C.W. cannon much....
.
Is it just me or is the trail longer than normal?
.
How about a interior shot of the box also?
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

I'm pretty sure Max Caliber  and the Seacoast boys have one.  Maybe they will check in.
I think the trail looks a little long also.

Zulu, That is LaPan's pattern number 2, a 3/4 scale Model 1841 6-pdr. The carriage appears to have all of LaPan's some 17 or so cast pieces of hardware.

The limber is a homemade box sitting on the rear gear of a farm wagon. The cast iron part on the end receives the wagons coupling pole, which could be lengthened or shortened according to the type of road box/bed or hay rack being used on the wagon.

Definetly a Lapan Tube, they did make some carriages but none to any authentic pattern that i am awarw of. All of my M/Loaders were made by Lapan,s but with my Patterns. Last Feb they had a devastating fire that has shut them down permanently alas.

My friend has commissioned me to try to sell his gun.  He is asking $8500 for it.
It is located in Meadville,  Pennsylvania.  About 1 1/2 hours out of Pittsburgh.
If anyone has any interest please send me a personal message.
