ejector to extractor
« on: September 18, 2012, 11:55:54 AM »
Been reading in the stickies about converting an ejector barrel to an extractor barrel.  Got a 22 hornet ejector that will ocassionally not eject the empty.  It's not stuck hard, I can drop a22 cal. brass cleaning jag from the muzzle and knock it out.  will the conversion generate any moreextraction  pressure on the ejector?  Just wondering.

The factory style extractor conversion will, but the simple modification of the ejector to allow it to extract only won't make any difference with sticking brass, it still relies on the spring to start the brass out of the chamber. Doing the ejector tune(FAQs) may make a difference tho, adding a BB ahead of the ejector spring increases spring tension.

siamese4570 - Since the 22Hornet is a rimmed cartridge, I would take quickdtoo's advice;

and just do the ejector tune.  The ejector to extractor conversion won't give you any additional "extraction leverage", you'll just have the same problem, if the spring isn't strong enough.

If your set on an extractor, just get an extractor barrel in 22 Hornet.
