Federal Premium #1 buck
« on: September 19, 2012, 08:36:31 AM »
I'm down to my last 3 rounds of 20+ year old Federal Premium #1 buckshot (copper plated, buffered, 3-inch).  I read a report that Federal introduced a law enforcement, low-recoil #1 buck at the 2012 SHOT Show, and that it patterned great with their Tru-flite wad.  I can't find any, and none of the gun shops I visit are interested in trying to get any for me.  Does anyone know of a source?  My old Mossberg 500 loves the copper-plated #1's, and I've put a lot of venison in the freezer with it.  I hate to buy ammo mail-order, but since I can't find it in stock anywhere in SC, maybe someone can point me to a source.
The folks at Federal sure are annoying! :-\

Checked Able's, no luck on the #1 Buck (hey, that rhymes!).  Maybe someone specializing in Law Enforcement ammo.  I'll keep looking and post if I find any.

Im glad I am not the only one having trouble trying to locate some of this ammo.  Ironically Bass Pro, Academy or D!cks Sporting Goods dont seem to have any interest in trying to stock it either which is strange considering I for one would probably buy at least a dozen boxes a month, instead of buying nothing from them.  I was hoping to find the wads available to reloaders but havent had any success as of yet.

Thanks for the Ammoseek link.  The Ammo Bank lists Federal Premium #1 Buck in a 3-inch shell, but at almost $17 for a 5-round pack, plus shipping, that's a bit steep.  I'll bet these are old rounds, since I've read nothing of the new shells being offered in 3 inch.  I'll keep looking for the new ones with the FliteControl wads.  Ya'll speak up if you find any that can be bought on line.

Generally Jtrain, speciality ammo will cost you a premium price.  >:( that said, I like #1 buckshot. But I always shot it in a 16 gauge shotgun. I assume your wanting it for a 12 since your talking about 3" shells.  :o
