Dead River Rough Cut
« on: September 20, 2012, 05:04:31 PM »
Has anyone else seen this movie? I have it on DVD and love watching it. Two young filmmakers back in the 70's decided to film two Mainers who chose to live off the land trapping and hunting in the deep woods of Maine. It's pretty interesting and funny, too.

I am tempted to order a copy. That way of life is dying out, even in Maine.

You won't be sorry if you do. I told a friend of mine at work about it, he ended up ordering a copy. He told me he's watched it too many times to count. The filmakers did a fantastic job at capturing the whole experience of that way of life. You're right about them being a dying breed.

Ive had this movie for over three years now and love it! I'm from that area of Maine and have hunted it a bunch growing up. My dad still lives in North anson and my sister lives in Strong, all  about 45 minutes from dead river. My dad and sister have both killed big moose up there. Maine is a whole other world and i miss it.

I've spent some time in that area myself, my cousin has a camp in North New Portland. I haven't been over there in some years but went there a lot with him when we were kids. He hunts that area every year. One of these times I'll head over there and hunt with him, it's only a couple hours from me. I love that part of Maine.
