Colt collectors... A King Cobra 8"

I have one! It's got a vent rib 8" barrel WO/ a full under lug! I did not know there was such a thing...

Nice lookng gun, CW. Congrats. I was  umaware pf these but, if you hadn't said it was a Colt I'd of assumed the barrel was a S&W with custom touches?

I would be suprised if that was the case... the barrel has all Colt markings including a "KING COBRA" ROLL MARK.  ::) ;)

As I recall, the King Colbra, or Colbra (your choice of snakes dependant) was basically a Python (another snake) but without the full length underlug.  Twarn't nutin S&W about Colts, which I felt was always a shortcoming on Colt's part...imo

Almost Mikey,
 The King Cobra is a cheaper offering from Colt that resemble The feel as well as some aspects of the Python without the cost. But the Python is a "I" frame with leaf springs. The King Cobra is a "V" frame and it uses coil springs. Both these guns utalize full barrel under lugs. It only the Python was vented like a shotgun rib. The KC was a solid rib. Both where 357 Magnum calibers.

To my knowledge the KC was only Offered in 4 & 6" barrels, in both blue and later stainless. The Pythons where offered in 2 3/4", 4", 6" & 8" barrels in Blue.

CW, my Dad collected Colts, and had every offering.  One was a Python which had gone back to Colt to be "slicked", and was custom fitted with an 8" barrel.  If I had had foresight, I would have borrowed money and bought  those from Mama instead of selling them for her.

I hear you!! My pop always wanted a Python, but settled on a Diamond back! Now we both have Diamondbacks in 38 & 22lr! Great little revolvers!

I let two Pythons slip thru my hands... I also had opertunities at a Officers 22... I grabbed that one!! ;)

Very nice.  Colt marketed a version of the Python with a Leupold scope factory mounted called "The White Tailer" or words to that effect.  Is it possible that there was a King Cobra version as well?

Excellent call Larry!!

Yes the Whitetailer was a shirt lug vent rid barreled matte finished revolver.

One guy that looked at this gun who worked at Colts, told me he thought it was a Whitetailer barrel roll marked King Cobra. Also the roll
Mark is centered on a 6" setup. Not centered on 8" as you would expect.

I could have bought a stainless KC a few years ago from I guy at work for $350. I wish I did now. :'(

Very nice weapon! Congrats! I agree with Ben on the part about shipping it to his FFL for pick-up. And, after he has his way with it for a while, to be fair, he should ship it to me so that I can have my turn as well!

cwlongshot, since you mentioned the officers 22, I'll relate about mine. I was given a officers model match(not special), 38 specl. when I was in my early 20s. It was after a murder trial and yes the gun was a killer. Man bought it and killed a man with the first shot. Slickest double action I've ever seen. Bull bbl.,adj. sights, and the smoothest da trigger ever. You could hold it in one hand and pull the trigger da with your little finger 6 times just as fast as you could. Like a fool I traded it off-stupid, stupid, stupid!  Pat

SB, My father was the prosecuting attorney. If the court had no further use for the weapon he could request it. This was over 50 yrs. ago. He also got and gave me(I also traded this off) a Walther PPK 380. Had all the Nazi markings and was in stainless. Can you believe that a person so stupid could graduate from collage.  Pat

Ive never heard of this during WWII aWalthers made in stainless steel! Must of been nickel?

SB, I'm almost 71 now and I was a little kid when I first started handling it(a lot). It was never wiped down and never a speck of rust. Maybe not ss, but some sort of alloy that looked like it.  Pat
