Picture and a question
« on: September 24, 2012, 04:02:28 PM »
Picture of a EGW mount on a 20ga rifled barrel with a Simmons Prodiamond 4x.  Only one I could find other than the Weaver 82 POS.  Not thrilled about the cantilever.  Using Millett med. rings.  Low will allow scope to clear trimmed hammer, but a bit too low for the MC stock.

Just put it together because I have to use shotgun on the public land I 'might' be able to hunt opening day.  I'll see if I can find some Federal or Rem sabots.  All I've got are Rem sluggers for my smooth bore.

The barrel says "20ga 2 3/4 or 3 rifled bore".  Nothing else.  Has no sights, is 24" long.  Wondering what it is?  Tracker?

I have a Handi grip on another rifle.  Might switch if anyone wants to give positive feedback on the idea.

Thanks.

Thanks.

rd - I doubt it's a Tracker, I have two Tracker barrels, both of them say: Tracker (other says Tracker II), it also has cylinder bore stamped on it, and both of them have iron sights.  Maybe it's a barrel off of an older model H&R or NEF.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

You might want to check further, but I think you might be better off with plain slugs in your smoothbore. Sabot rounds are intended for rifled barrels.

Shoot as many different brands of sabots as you can and find what groups the best in your gun and stick with those.

rd,

1, I have the same barrel.  My experience is stay away from the foster slugs with a rifled 20ga handi barrel unless you like scrubbing lead out of the bore. :P  Like spikehorn says you are probably going to have to try several different sabots until you find the one your barrel likes.  This regrettably is an expensive undertaking at $2 to $4 a pop.

Mine likes the Hornady "eraser tip" sabot, and the Remmy super expensive ones.  Both shoot great at 100yds., with same POI.
