35 Whelen 200gr. BT Nosler ABs
« on: September 25, 2012, 02:14:31 PM »
I would have never really considered my 35 Whelen a long range deer/bear/elk gun but after my reloading and testing the Nosler Accubond BT 200 grainer in my Remington 35cal. 7600 carbine last week. I used LVR powder in the Rem35 and got really great groups at 200 yards.

I then today loaded my Remington 750 carbine 35 Whelen with the same slug but used IMR 8208 XBR powder to the max. 2800+ FPS.

Heavens to Betsy... This load was sighted in @ 100 yards @ 1" high and shot at 200 yards the the 2 slugs I fired were 2" high (@ 200 yards even). The MPBR is going to be wild.

Going at this rate this round could be a 500 yard gun easy. Bare in mind this was with an 18.5" auto carbine 35 cal. with 1.5" groups.

At your given velocity of 2800 fps for this bullet my ballistics tables indicate a 200 yd zero would result in approx. +2.0" @ 100 yds, 0.0" @ 200 yds,  -9.0" @ 300 yds, -28.0" @ 400 yds, and
- 60.0 "@ 500 yds.  These ballistics  are based on the scope being mounted 1.5" above the bore.

This load is flying flatter than that.  I am 1" high @ 100 and 2" high at 200.  I have not tried it any more than that.  This is a flat shooting slug.

sorry bud I think youve got a about 235-250 mpbr there. any further out and youll have to hold over.  youve got one of the best medium range elk carbines ever built, load it up with some 250 partitions or 225 barnes x and let it shine. 200's and 180's arent what it was designed to throw tho it will with considerable aplomb but long range stuff isnt its forte.

A lot of the 180 - 200 grain bullets are designed for 35 Remington velocities. Trust me, if you shoot a deer at 25 yards, the results can be dramatic!

I have never tried the 200 AB bullet. Onl just started fiddling with the wxcellemt 225 3-4 years ago! Lol

In my Whelen I load it with a max loading if RL15 for 2800fps and the extra weight really packs a punch at longer ranges. Holds vel well with its shape. It's a better long range bułket if you can most it fast enough.

I also load 200's but I found a load using AA2520 powder nets me almsot 3000fps!!!

My rifle is a Shillen barreled 98 Mauser. The barrel is 28" chambered for a 270 case 35 cal. Technically not a 35 Whelen, but oh so close. ;)

I would love a 760/7600 35Whelen. I have two 35 rems and a 308 in 760's. I love the pumps!! I'm looking HARD. At a 7600P 223 AR mag police rifle.

Are any of these velocities actually chronographed or from a book?
