Tomorrow's The Day
« on: September 25, 2012, 05:50:43 PM »
I know some of you have been wondering. Well after many delays, and one surgeon turning the operation down because he didn't think I'd survive it, tomorrow I find out the date I'll be operated on to replace my Mitral Valve. This surgeon will go in through my side thus upping the odds a bit for me. When I had my bypass both my lungs collapsed so I'm hoping this is as less invasive as they say it is. Gotta do what ya gotta do so no sense worrying. Still, I'd be lying if I said I'll get much sleep tonight. Banking on this surgeon being as good as they say he is.  Because of all the delays I imagine he'll want to do it as soon as possible. I'd just as soon get it over with.

Good luck Spirithawk. Yes that will be less evasive. I know a couple people that have had it done that way without any problems. I know it is difficult not to worry but you will come through this just fine.

Well I'm hoping the operation is less invasive and that the valve repair is not evasive.  Sorry about that; it's just the way I am.  The best of luck to you Spirithawk.
We should all take a moment to rejoice that we live in a time when these miracle operations are possible and that we have these terrific dedicated doctors to practice their skills.

Thanks folks. I'll be heading to Springfield soon. My surgeon is in the same hospital as my mother and I'm going to visit her too. Her heart is only operating at 10% so things aren't looking good for her. Prayers much apreciated.

45-70, boy do I ever know what you mean. First I had to wait to see the first surgeon only to be told that he wouldn't attempt it. Then I had to have all my teeth pulled to avoid any chance of infection. That took 3 months getting done and healed only to find out the dentist did a shoddy job. That led to oral surgery and another long healing process. Doctors told my wife and I that I could drop dead any minute without warning so it's been like the proverbial sword hanging over my head. Been doing my dangdest to prove them wrong. Well, I'm headed to Mercy Hospital, use to be St. John's, in Springfield so I'll know soon when the deed gets done. Ever want to know something but yet not want to know? ;) Thanks for the kind words and prayers. Much apreciated. :)

One heart patient to another, Slide with the flow.  That's all you can do and worrying don't do you good, it has bad side affects.  Like the song says, "Don't worry, be happy".

Yea, I know it's hard, sitting and waiting.  I sat for a week in the hospital waiting for my by-pass.  They were afraid to let me go home.  The way I look at it, I'm living on borrowed time so any thing I do is extra for my life.  The Cardiologist told my wife two weeks ago that if I had started my heart problems 15 years sooner I would not be here today.  So once again all of us with heart issues are lucky they have the technology today to do things we need done to keep us around playing with our Grand Kids.  Live a lifetime in each day.  Rog

Yep Sourdough, my bypass didn't worry me. Had a heart attack and it was done the next day. Had I known both my lungs would collapse and there'd be complications it might have. The stents I wasn't expecting and they did it before I was even told they were going to. This has been far differant. Too much time thinking. lol but you are right. worrying never acomplished anything and I look at no battle being lost as long as you can keep fighting. :) Well, I'm out the door and on my way. Will fill you all in when I get home.

Thanks guys. Greatly apreciated.
Well, it looks like the operation will be about the middle of October. The surgeon said they'll call tomorrow with the exact date. Good news is he is just going to repare the existing valve rather than replace it. Plus he said that he won't even have to stop my heart to do so. That and it will be 5 days in the hospital and two weeks recovery. Way better than the 6 months I had with my bypass! Pretty good news all things concidered.  :) Visited with my mother afterwards. she's not doing good but better than expected. They are moving her out of critical care to another room tomorrow. I'll post the date as soon as I hear tomorrow. Looks like here I sit waiting again.   ::)  lol

Thanks. :)
Hey, I won't get to do a lot of bow hunting but I've still got two weeks before the operation. ;) Plus I should be in decent shape to rifle hunt in November and muzzleloader hunt in December. Got a new .50 barrel on my T/C Encore, something I've wanted since 01 when I won the rifle and a Pronghorn hunt in Wyoming with Dave Watson, and I've a new to me .357 mag J.P. Sauer single action. Both I'm anxious to take deer with. :)

Got the call. They will operate Oct. 16 Cutting it close for Firearms Deer Season as it opens Nov. 10. That's about 19days after the 5 in the hospital. He said I could drive in two weeks so I'm thinking Rifle Season I'll ride the Honda Rancher close to my spot then just sit with my .270 or might instead use one of my son's rifles in a .243 it having less recoil. Any advice on that?  Main thing is that I haven't missed a deer season hunting with my son since he was 14, he's now 37, and I don't plan to start now.  :)
