My first trapping season... so far.
« on: February 09, 2004, 10:09:28 AM »
Hello everyone. I really enjoy viewing all of the posts at this forum so I figured I would post something myself. Just gonna tell everyone how my first trapping season has been thus far. First off, lets start with location. I live in the piney woods of north-east texas. Lots of woods to trap in but there are no mountains or plains. The weather is strange. This year has been dry. It rarely stays below freezing for more than a day. So far I think I've done pretty well considering this is my first year to really try trapping besides the occasional live trap or maybe 1 or 2 footholds. About a week after i put my first dozen traps out, i caught 2 grey foxes. Two or three more days pas and i caught this small bobcat female. I know there is a larger tom lurking because i seen him in early november. As more time passed I increased mmy number of traps to about 3 dozen counting snares and cubbies. I actuall managed to catch an armadillo in a #110 cubby. After this i started putting #1's outside of each cubby. I soon caught two coons this way, however, ive had no luck with the many many mink around those woods. I also snared my first beaver. Later I caught two more greys. Then I finally caught my first coyote. However, most of the yotes in our areah have mange from hanging out at the chicken houses too much. This one was eat uip with it and useless. However about a month ago, I snared a female that had no mange but was only slightly better quality. I have also caught this beautiful red fox this season. wish i could have gotten its running mate as well. The second pair of greys were slightly on to me but i caught one the first night i made my set into a gang set. They didn't know what hit them. Add all of this to the dozens of oppossums and you can see just how my season has been. I'm still not finished though. Right now all of my traps are pulled but within a couple of weeks, I plan on setting them all back out in a new, never before trapped in location. Wish me luck. I hope everyone has enjoyed this as much as I have the other post, and I plan on visiting here frequently to inform everyone of my enduring successes. Hope everyone else does as well in their first season and for seasons to come. Let me know what you think about all of this. I hope thes pics work. If not let me know and i'll try something else.
