I just put a used 12 gauge 870 buttstock on a 20 gauge Pardner pump. I had to drill the 1" diameter hole in the Remington buttstock and additional 1" deep to allow use of the Pardner pump screw/bolt that holds the buttstock on. The threads on the Remington and Pardner stock screw/bolt are different so the easiest way for me to make it work was to make the hole in the Remington stock 1" deeper. I am making up a shorter stock to teach someone to shoot. I could still use the stock on a Remington by simply adding a 1" x 1" wooden spacer made from a dowel or even a broom handle (broomstick?)....<><....
